Adopting Bunnies

Hi there - new to the forum!

I have several rescue bunnies, who once spayed and neutered will be looking for new homes. I've been rescuing horses, goats and the occasional bunny for years, but recently I've had a large number of rabbits left with me, rather unexpectedly. I've always given them to wonderful homes (checked out, and I get updates) since its been one here and there over the years, but I'm going to have about 10 for adoption soon.. and to help cover the costs of all these spays and neuters, I need to ask an adoption fee.. what is a good range to ask? And what about for pairs?

I don't want to ask to much, but I really can't afford to take to much of a loss either, as I've also got two new rescue horses coming in, one who will need vet work upon arrival (undiagnosed lameness the current owner doesn't want to get checked out). Is $60 for one too much?

Also, besides here, where can I post them? I've always feared craigslist for small animals (and sometimes for the big ones too!), but I don't have enough space for this many rabbits long term. They are getting all the care they need, but with all my other critters (and my own personal bunnies) I don't have a lot of time to spend with each individual one, and I feel bad!

60 is about what you'd pay for a "new" baby bunny in aus so sounds more than reasonable to me. a lot of the rescues here have an adoption fee of around $160...

The rescues around here all charge $75 for a single bun, so I think $60 is reasonable! Maybe contact another rescue in your general area (or just check their website) and see what they're charging so that potential owners won't overlook your guys for a slightly cheaper rabbit at the rescue.

Our rescue charges $55 for a single rabbit and $95 for a pair. You can contact a rescue group and ask if they would post them on Petfinder for you. Our group does courtesy listings for people.

i think that fee sounds reasonable, i paid $120 to have mine spayed so i consider that to be a bargain!!

I like the idea about courtsey listings! I know there is a very well known Rabbit rescue a few hours from me, so I will ask someone there about that!

I would charge an adoption fee that is close to the cost of the spay or neuter, at least to a point. I just had a doe spayed and it cost about $400 with the exam and everything, so that would not be a good adoption price.
Most shelters and rescues seem to have an adoption fee ranging from $25-75 and there can be a discount for a second rabbit like instrad of $50 each ($100 for both), it would be $75 for 2. $60 for 1 is not unreasonable, but keep in mind where you are and if people would be willing to pay that.

I know that some local rescues post on Kijiji to advertise pets. They usually do a post for each one. The adopters still have to do the paperwork and such, but it is a good way to get the word out.
Some local pet stores might be willing to put up some flyers or help you advertise through their facebook or website. I know that may stores here partner with local rescues to help with donations and hold adoption events.
Some rescues are willing to list for smaller rescues, so it doesn't hurt to ask.
Whatever you do, make sure you have good contact info avaliable. A phone number, e-mail, website or whatever will be very helpful. Also give as much info on the rabbits as you can, at the very least size (breed if known), sex and a bit of a description if you know anything about them. Something like Lop cross, about 5 pounds, female, spayed, litter trained and loves to run around and gets along with other rabbits.
