Accidentally Stepped on Bunny

I find it VERY disturbing that you guys are all telling this young girl (or boy), to disobey her parents. Her mother has experience in the veterinary field, and was able to tell if Duncan was truly hurt (spinal injury, etc.). He is showing improvement, which is a GREAT sign. Do not come at this girl's parents because they can't afford to take Duncan to the vet right now. It will take time for him to rebuild trust, and recover from any bruising, so relax. I have had rabbits get underfoot and they always bounce back with for zest than before.
Do not put a young teen under pressure to disobey her parents.

I’m offering advice from my OWN experience and I’m not saying she should openly disobey her parents.

In my case, my dad thought my bunny would recover on his own. I didn’t think Min-Min would without help like pain medicine because he was trying to eat but couldn’t. Based on all his behavior (my bun was acting completely normal), my dad originally reasoned that my bunny would make a recovery. I disagreed though I could understand my dad’s logic because he was basing it off of his experience with other types of pets.

I ended up showing my brother, mom, and dad similar cases from the Internet on incidents with bunnies where they didn’t appear injured but were. I also let them know what happens with gi stasis. As such, my dad realized the severity of the situation and we drove to an emergency vet and my bun has since made a full recovery.

Which if they liked animals could have gotten them a possible future job too showing they care and want to be there. It's like you didn't read any of the replies you quoted and just had a knee jerk reaction. To attack the parent would be to say "you seem to want to stand by someone who " She did vet school in high school on big and small animals. " and you would trust a possible spinal injury, rib injury to that? What high school gives full vet training?" That would be me slightly attacking her or just calling out the fake comment. It's was likely a comment meant to calm her as any parent would want to clam their child. Anyway, goodbye that was just a wow comment to read.

You quoted way too many people on this. With possibly one exception, no one told them to disobey their parents. If you read carefully, the OP said a couple times that she had not even told her parents that her rabbit was injured. It wasn't until later that she finally told her mom and said her mom had "vet school in high school"- arguably questionable. Lack of affordability was never mentioned by the OP.

While not all the messages I quoted did not explicitly say to disobey her parents, I still find it very negative and immature to push someone to do something at their parents have already given an answer to. I take this from EXPERIENCE. I had a rabbit I thought was sick. People kept telling me I had to take her to the vet. I argued with my parents for 2 days before they let me schedule anything. We drove an hour and waited around (all four of my siblings in tow) in a cafe while we waited. We picked her up 4 hours later (it was a surgery day at the clinic, that's why it took so long) to find her in perfect health. My parents and I pooled together to pay the $112 fee.
Taking some vet classes is better than a parent with say an art background checking Duncan. Learning medical care tends to stick with you (like CPR/AED training sticks with you).
Okay, I didn't understand she didn't tell her parents. But she had to tell them at some point, or they would never understand why she wanted to take him to the vet.
My point was and still is, even if not explicitly, you pushed this girl to disobey her parents or her rabbit would die or some baloney. You guys influenced her to the point where she said she was willing to ask her Grandma to take her. That will/would really shove a wedge between her and her parents. Duncan is improving. Celebrate. Don't tare her down and tell her to take her rabbit to the vet because you think that things can't be cured without a vet.

I I read all the comments. I understand bad things happen. But sometimes that is part of life. Some family (such as mine) have trouble having money to take a rabbit to the vet. I'm not backing down on this. Grow up. The best thing anyone can do for a rabbit they cannot get to the vet is to give them the best life they can.

Any person, any age, needs to be held responsible for looking after any animals they bring home. Child or adult, if you are not prepared to care for and SEEK VETERINAY ATTENTION when it is needed, like in this post, YOU SHOULD NOT BE KEEPING ANY PETS.
Providing for your animals includes medical care, not "oh lets see what happens".
You try getting your back stepped on by a horse and see how you feel.
Failing to provide your animals with what they need is neglect.
Veterinary school is not the same as high school. You can't even get into vet school right from high school. She doesn't have xray vision. She can't tell if there is internal bleeding. We have seen member loose their rabbits because of stuff like this.
If you are unwilling to vet your animals they should be brought to someone who is willing to vet them.
This is all something that needs to be thought of long before an animal comes home. Are you going to do what it takes to get your pet what they need or not?

I understand your mother thinking that Duncan is ok, but she should also understand pain animals feel.

Yes thank you so much. It’s not necessarily that they can’t afford it they just don’t want to pay it and think he is fine. But I am trying to get my grandma to take him because I am truly concerned about him even though he is doing better.

Why? Because all parents are omniscient? Gimme a break...and if the girl and her parents cannot afford emergency treatment for an injured rabbit, she shouldn't have that pet.

Okay I’m so so sorry but you need to chill. Duncan has shown major improvement. My parents can afford treatment but he has not needed it. I am going to get him checked out just to make sure nothing is broken. And don’t even tell me what I can and cannot have. I take care of my rabbit. We can afford my rabbit. I love my rabbit so very very much but it is not my choice as a freshman I’m high school as to what my parents do when they have checked out my animal and say he is fine. That is not in my control. Once again, Duncan has shown improvement and is eating again and being normal. So please chill.

Okay I’m so so sorry but you need to chill. Duncan has shown major improvement. My parents can afford treatment but he has not needed it. I am going to get him checked out just to make sure nothing is broken. And don’t even tell me what I can and cannot have. I take care of my rabbit. We can afford my rabbit. I love my rabbit so very very much but it is not my choice as a freshman I’m high school as to what my parents do when they have checked out my animal and say he is fine. That is not in my control.
