Before I Was A Bunny Mom
(based on Before I Was A Dog Mom by Carol Wat)
Before I was aBunny Mom:
Iate fruitunmolested.
I had unchewed, unfurred clothes.
I had quiet conversations on the phone (and not because the chord had been chomped).
Before I was aBunny Mom:
I didnt have to vacuum so often.
I never had to store oats and Craisins under lock and key
I never tripped over toys, boxes,
or a lovelorn creature circling my feet.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I lived more spontaneously
I could leave for the weekend with no planning
I never worried about what was happening while I was away.
I never had such joyous homecomings.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I didn't worry if my plants, cleansers, plastic bags, toilet paper, soap or deodorant were poisonous or dangerous.
I didn't have to put latches on cabinets or covers on chords,
and I still had nice wooden legs on my furniture.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I had never been shed on
Chewed on
Thumped at
Or snubbed by The Butt.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I had complete control of
My thoughts,
My body and mind.
And my possessions
I slept all night without the rattle of water bottles.
Or a four-pound bed hog.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I never looked into big, soulful eyes and cried.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop a hurt.
I never knew something so furry and four-legged could affect my heart so deeply.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was well.
I didn't know how warm it feels inside to see a furry face at the cage door, wanting to come out and play.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a Bunny Mom:
I had never known
the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being....
