A little hair loss.

Well, yesterday, I took a good look at Pippin(about 3 month old American fuzzy lop), and he has a small patch(pretty distinctive) of hair loss on his nose. There are no flakes, no scabs, nothing. He did have an encouter with out hormonal, unspayed female, could she have pulled it out? The used to come out under the watchful eye of at least two people (before Pippin begun to get all buck-like and want to him), but they have never fought, she does,however, grab his fur and hump him (dominance thing). But, still, his face? She's never done that..... and the patch just doesn't seem like it was pulled out...



Any ideas?

Could it be him moulting from his baby fur to his adult fur?

That was my first thought.
It could be, but I don't think so, because he isn't moulting anywhere else, at all.

But, like I said, could be....



Edit: I totally forgot that rabbits, for the most part, start moulting from the head... so, yes..... but still not sure...

I'm not certain on this, obviously, it is merely a guess. My rabbits moult from their heads backward, so maybe this is the first sign of it.

Is there a wound or anything there? Does he live with anyone?

No wounds, no roommate.

I just remembered, that I did have to 'pluck' some of his fur the other day. Which is a sign of the adult coat coming in....

Hopefully it's just a moult and nothing to worry about. Just keep an eye out for dry skin etc, and signs of mites.

I actually might have found out what is going on.

Beside Rosie's cage is a little table that he jumps up (because he really likes Rosie, despite their earlier, less than inviting,encounters). So, I walked out my room a few minutes ago and looked over there, and he was up on that thing and she was chewing the bars near him. He put his nose up to her, and she grabbed the fur on his nose:shock:He pulled back hard and she had some fur in her mouth.

So, this has probably been happening enough for her to rip out the rather large patch...
