Maybe I am being over concerned, but is it normal that my 1st time Netherland Dwarf doe , her teats are very small and I tried to see if any milk was coming out and dont get any. She kindled last night around 10:30PM . I checked the kits this evening and they dont seem like they have eaten. Not overly skinny yet.

I have not been breeding too long and I always get concerned that the babies are being fed.

Does it take a day or so for the milk to start to flow?

i've had a similar experience lately (congrats btw :) ) and everyone on the forum seemed to say the same thing - most mamas dont feed until about 24 hours after giving birth.

dont stress just now :)

Thank you!
Right after postic this topic, the doe jumped into the nest box and was a perfect mommy!:dancingorig:
Of course I had to see after she was done , and the kits all had the fullest bellies!
This is the first time that I have had a first time Netherland Doe with live babies with her first time around. She is a KEEPER!
Thanks

Oh there was one thing the doe did that I have never seen before...right before she went into nurse for the first time, she started pulling a lot of fur... brought it into the nest box , then started nursung. Its not like she needed more in there because she had pulled plenty before she kindled.
I am not sure if she was clearing the fur away from the nipples or just being a good mamma..IDK both I guess
