Weeping sore eyes in old age - dilemma!

Can you get a picture of what's going on with his eyes? What color and consistency is the discharge? I'd worry less if it's watery and clear; more if it's opaque. The description "cross and sore" makes me worry that he's scratching at them so hard he may damage his cornea (I would stain his...

    Mystifying Ailment - RIP

If your veterinarian is indeed an exotics specialist they should be able to pass a nasogastric tube or place an esophageal tube that would allow you to get food into him without him actually having to swallow it, but I don't know if he's at that point yet.

    Panacur for rabbits with pasteurella/snuffles?

I agree with the above; it sounds like your bun needs veterinary attention ASAP! Panacur won't help in this situation but depending on her level of respiratory distress she may need supplementary oxygen or nebulization in addition to systemic antibiotics.

24 our car ride, moving out of state. worried about what to with bun while at hotel

Has he been good on car rides in the past? You might try feeding him in his carrier (at least in the house if not in the car) to help him get more comfortable in there and make it more likely he'll eat in there on the trip.

Bunny hasn't done binkies in a while

What's the flooring like? My duo hate slippery floors and will just sort of creep around on them but have much more fun on rugs where they have good traction.

    Bunny Drinking/Urinating Frequently

If it's seasonal or related to diet (hay and pellets have little to no water in them, so they need to drink more on those diets than if they're eating a lot of fresh greens) then it may be nothing to worry about. The tests your first vet ran all sound sensible to me (although part of that...

    No Poo

Did she get any pain medications after her surgery? Most rabbit savvy vets won't fast rabbits for more than maybe an hour before surgery. It is physically impossible for them to vomit which is what we worry about with cats and dogs and why we fast them. If she's still not eating now I would...

    Hay

Were the two rabbits bonded? Why was the female euthanized? Many rabbits find hay to be the least delicious part of their diet and it's also the hardest to eat. This could be the first sign of a dental problem. If he hasn't seen a vet recently for a checkup, now's a good time to do it.

    Bunny Drinking/Urinating Frequently

Is he neutered? Where are you located? Do you feel like his water consumption has increased or has it always been normal for him to drink this much?

24 our car ride, moving out of state. worried about what to with bun while at hotel

Definitely recommend giving your rabbit frequent access to the carrier starting now so he gets used to it and finds it familiar and comforting when you start to travel. If you know the basic route you'll be taking, you can try calling hotels now and see what their policies are on rabbits.

Rabbit vaccinated with old vial of vaccine

Since it's an inactivated vaccine and not one that has to be reconstituted, the only concern I can think of with storing the multi-use bottle is risking lack of sterility, but with good technique that shouldn't be a risk. I don't see why it would lose its effectiveness after one dose was removed.

Rabbit vaccinated with old vial of vaccine

Do you know the specific brand used? We don't vaccinate rabbits here in the US but vaccines for other animals come in different forms and those have different effects on shelf life. Some are in multi-dose vials and others in single-dose vials. Some have to be reconstituted and others don't.

Rabbit Savy Vets and Pain Meds

I've experienced a number of practitioners who will willingly see any species, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're all keeping up on their continuing education for those species. The fact that he chose an antibiotic other than Baytril shows he knows a little something (I've had vets tell...

Rabbit Savy Vets and Pain Meds

For a long time there was a school of thought that said we should keep animals in pain after surgery to restrict their movement so they don't tear their incisions open, etc. Now the school of thought leans much more towards relieving as much of their pain as possible and using physical barriers...

    Spay Scar

Thanks for updating us! I hope she recovers smoothly. My first rabbit was spayed when I adopted her but developed mammary cancer. It's possible that her previous owner really did think she was spayed when she got her. Spay scars can heal to an almost invisible line. It makes it harder since...

Expectations With Litter Box Training Of A 8 Week Old Bun

What sort of set up does he have? It really helps if you don't have any bedding anywhere but inside of the litterbox.

New rabbit in the household- kind of lost

If you've only had her a day I'd leave her alone for now. Once she figures out that you're where the food comes from things should be looking up for the both of you. Then I recommend just sitting on the floor and letting her come up to you. Bribing her with food (my buns think their pellets...

    Genders?? Baby Guinea Pigs

This site has some pictures and links to other guinea pig sites you may find useful. http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm Why is sexing your 4 day old guinea pigs urgent? You shouldn't need to separate them until they're about 3 weeks old.

    Silly question

Depends on the rabbit. Some may eat them and if they're eating a little bit that's not a problem, but if they're scarfing them down I would stop giving them to them.

    Hay

Until I started getting a steep vet student discount from Oxbow, I would buy my hay at a feed store. The ones near me will sell hay either by the bale or by the trashbag. I could usually get a trash bag full for $5-$10 which is nice if you don't have space to store a full bale. Some of the...
