    New breeder. Looking for advice.

I would personally keep them separate. Your buck is still young and he may not have that mentality yet and if you keep them together it may take longer for him to get there. Separate until he’s 8months and then try again

    Color of babies

The second one is definitely a tri and they are showable. The first one I thought broken orange at first but there are black spots on those ears so it might be a tri too

    Starting to show rabbits

A little more in depth Holland’s are a four class breed shown in two varieties. They are first divided into the varieties of Solid or Broken and then each variety there are 4 classes that are Sr Buck, Sr Doe, Jr Buck, and Jr Doe. Jrs are 6months and under and seniors are over 6mos of age. Find...

How much/when to breed Holland Lops?

We were a small rabbitry and I only bred maybe once a year with some of my does but that’s just because we had a lack of space. I also hated how hard it could be sometimes to even get one litter a year so I would recommend against that and say at least two to three times a year. You need to at...

Any Tips For first time breeders

I agree with all of the above. You have to have a reason for why you want to breed and you have to be responsible about it. You need to make sure you will also be mentally prepared if the babies die or even if Mom dies. It does happen and my mom and I have had it happen to us. I really...

    sad news

I am so sorry she didn’t make it. I know how it feels to have a little one pass and it is very hard to deal with.

What colours and patterns are my bunnies? Faults?

I looked up the BRC standard for them and they have both opal and squirrel so the names are the same :) When I say undercut it means that instead of the hindquarters being filled all the way to the floor they round off too early. This makes the hindquarters look not as full and almost makes it...

Big Wig and Blackie Chan ( breeds )

I agree with Blackie Chan being a lion head mix I also agree with Hermalin that Big Wig looks like a lion head mix or possibly even angora mix. If he’s bigger than 5lbs I’d say there’s probably angora in there somewhere because they tend to be more medium to large buns

    Good and bad show qualities?

I will say I didn’t raise Netherland dwarfs but I did have friends who showed me them when they evaluated them and commented for judges so I’m not perfect at evaluating them :) His head looks so pretty right now! Nice roundness and very nice ears! I might say I wish his eye was a little bit...

    Californian Meat Pen Advice

For meat pens they are usually about 70 days when they show. Yours are very close to that age and it’s very weird that they aren’t 5lbs yet. I showed Californians for my meat pen and all of mine were once ounce away from each other. I had the lady that sold me the buns look through all of my...

    babies again

Rabbits are creatures of habit. If she did it with her first litter and had them just fine she’s probably just doing it again. Some moms just like to nest early. As long as she isn’t pooping and peeing in the nest it should be fine to leave it till babies come
  12. woahlookitsme

    Is this normal??

I would have personally kept her with Mom until 10-12 weeks but She may be just fine especially if she’s made it this far. Just tell them to be extra careful with her diet and make sure she is getting a good pellet with lots of hay. They also might want to wait longer than normal to give veggies...

    New Angoras

That is awesome that you took them into your home. Please post photos if you can :) Angoras are definitely some sweet bunnies
  14. woahlookitsme

    Is this normal??

Keep a close eye on it. It is probably a runt. Keep it mind that it may not make it. Some people have tried supplementing those babies with extra meals from mom or with milk. I don’t think we ever tried to intervene. We let nature take its course with runts because we were breeding for show...

    babies again

They are so cute! I miss babies! The handling thing you were saying where Mom will stop taking care of them is a myth. You should take every baby out of the nest as soon as you can once they are all born. You must check for trauma, injuries, and count them all as well as remove any deceased. I...

Pet store cage for french lop

For the cage you have pictured Keep in mind your French lol full grown will take up at least 2/3 of that cage. Maybe more when sprawled out. If the rabbit will not be closed in that kennel for any about of time it should be fine to use as a hide. I have a suggestion that I used for my...

That definitely does not sound good. Does your cage not have a top to it?

What colours and patterns are my bunnies? Faults?

Are you in the US or abroad? Also I’m assuming these are Netherland Dwarfs or Netherland Dwarf mixes? For the US you are right about your darker rabbit. The color is called Opal. It is not a self color but would be shown in the Agouti Group. For the lighter one I’m thinking it’s a Squirrel...

What color is my holland lop?

I would agree with your breeder on smoke pearl. Although it’s hard to tell in pictures and without natural lighting I would say if I would guess any other color it would be Sable point but Sable points usually have pretty brown points and your baby looks to have gray/dark gray points. Blue...

Dead mouse in Oxbow hay? Any concerns?

I agree that I would just toss it. No idea if the rodent was exposed to a rodenticide and I wouldn’t risk it
