Do male rabbits have a dewlap?

Yes, they can. I don't know if it's the same biological process that causes it, though.

    Favourite rabbit colour poll

    I always liked thriantas.

Help Me With My Future Buns!

That's hard to say, because it depends on a ton of different things. Taking a complete ballpark guess, I'd say <$1k if you can build it yourself. This is one thing that makes house rabbits cheaper (and happier) -- because they can roam a room or floor, you can just focus on buying a small...

Help Me With My Future Buns!

Also, before I got rabbits, one of the hardest things to find was an estimate what it actually costs to keep rabbits (single or pair, indoor or outdoor). The only thing I could find anywhere was this guide from the RSPCA. (It's from 2012, so multiply by 1.6 to get 2023 US dollars.) It's not...

Help Me With My Future Buns!

Do you plan to keep them in a cage year-round? Typically, for full-time outdoor rabbits, I see large enclosures, not cages like they sell in stores. They're around the size of a small shed, and offer an enclosed area for protection from the elements; e.g...

    Female Rabbit injured

My vet uses clippers, so maybe that could be a potential alternative for you. Clippers can cause damage, too, but I'd probably go that route before scissors. I've noticed, for my doe, the clippers clear off a larger area and prevent future tangles (until the fur grows back, of course).

    Female Rabbit injured

This was my first thought. Also, were you cutting with, like, actual scissors?

They always want to go where they are not allowed!

I just wanted ONE room for myself, but nooo... they took that over, too.

    I think Freya is obese

I've been doing this -- grass, dandelions, & raspberry leaves. However, at some point, RHVD is going to hit my area of the US, and I have a lot of cottontails visiting my yard (probably because I feed them). I'm not sure what I'll do at that point.

    I think Freya is obese

Uh oh... we're not supposed to put that sort of thing out twice a day? :) My doe is similarly obese. She just loves to eat. All the time. And not usually hay. Even after cutting pellets down a lot, she's still hefty. In contrast, my buck eats more pellets & treats than she does, and doesn't...

How do I know my rabbit pellet's starting to go bad?

Interesting... I typically buy a year's supply at a time, but have never stored them in a fridge. Different companies probably put in different preservatives, but it's not something I've thought of before. Would rabbits even eat mouldy pellets? Would they know if pellets are "good" or "bad?"

Pet sling carrier for tame bunny?

I think it's more because the only reason rabbits are picked up in the wild is to be carried away by a predator and eaten alive. There are always exceptions (e.g., lap buns or rabbits that like being picked up), but they're not typical.

    Alternative to paper bedding

Absolutely -- better than paper bedding! I use Blue Eyes' litterbox setup, only I put a thin layer of paper bedding (and hay) on top of the wood pellets due to my doe's sore hocks.

Why do rabbit rescues have so much rules!?

I feel the same way about fostering. They won't allow a foster rabbit to have any contact whatsoever with a current home's rabbits, meaning either (1) you can't already have rabbits, or (2) you have to throw the foster in a cage or outside. Also, I filled out multiple applications for adoption...

    Chews for rabbits

I use willow balls & baskets from Binky Bunny, though they no longer carry the large baskets due to shipping costs. I also have a couple Ikea Hols set up as playhouses that they can chomp -- I fill them with newspaper for more chomping fun. And there's always something cardboard around...

    Rabbit poops

This is exactly my case with an overweight senior doe. She's on meloxicam for mobility, but her weight (and inability to reach her backside) is the root cause.

I joined to learn more about rabbits before getting a pair.

    Christmas tree for bunnies

I'm not sure on that, as the trees I bought were the treat! :) One of the big rabbit companies in the US uses sisal rope for their toys, but it's thicker and might not work the best for hanging stuff -- the sisal rope I have is 6mm thick and would weigh down small tree branches...
