Advice on how to best setup this area, please

Your construction is very solid and should last forever. Good job. If you seal the wood you should use something that is rabbit safe. I would think that linseed oil would be. Two of our bunny "apartments" have balconies and they are the rabbits' favorite places. Being a bit paranoid, I...

How to get my new bunny to enjoy being pet?

Our rabbits tended to chew on carpet along walls, in corners and in the doorways, anywhere there was an edge. I laid down 6-inch wide thin rabbit-safe boards in those places: tempered hardboard, scrap plywood or softwood boards cut thin, if you know someone who has a table saw. I had to use...

Is a cheap fan on low speed bad for rabbits?

In years past I used a cheap fan for some of our buns; but, this year I switched to an oscillating fan on its lowest speed for our young Flemish Giant. He seems to enjoy it because he'll lay down in front of it. If his ears get too cool he'll slip into a hidey hole that protects him from the...

With the right care, will my household smell?

We follow Blue Eyes recommendations and don't have any smell from five of our six rabbits. The sixth is an intact 6-month Flemish Giant buck that will sometimes cause a bit of a musky odor; however, that won't go on for very long; his neutering surgery is already scheduled. We have a single...

Post your bunny flops if you can get a picture.

Rusty, our 6-month Flemmie buck, plays hard and sleeps even harder. ;-)

How can i pick my rabbit up if he doesn’t like being picked up?

If you have not yet seen the Mary Cotter and Amy Sedaris rabbit videos on YouTube, you might give this a try. (All of their videos are good, IMHO.)

    Dandelion flowers?

Dandelions are our bunnies' favorite food this time of year. I know of a couple of patches where no herbicides are sprayed and the flowers are huge. Best of all, they grow thick and tall; so, harvesting them is easy. :-)

    Digging?

As Blue Eyes said, digging is a natural rabbit behavior. It is instinctive. One of our six rabbits seems to be more driven by instinct than all the others. Even though she was spayed she went through a false pregnancy and spent days building an elaborate nest. When it was finished she stayed...

    Suggestions for my bunnies birthday!

It sounds tame; but, our young Flemish Giant goes bananas over cilantro. That makes me happy because when he begs for treats he can have as much as he wants. Some treat items have sugar and the buns can't have very many, even though they beg for more. If the human caves in to their wishes it...

what should i use to cover up the ends of the cage fence?

Be sure you and your parents are prepared for this sort of thing when your baby hits puberty. This is just a sampling of what our mixed-breed buck, Alfie, would do when he hit became a "teenager." He was amazingly accurate with his aim. He would hop past his sister's enclosure and without...

How can I clip my rabbits nails?

Maybe I should start a new thread; and, I might. But, our experience with a four-month Flemish Giant might be worthwhile, here. Just this week we adopted Rusty. The first thing we noticed is that his nails were razor sharp; we have the accidental scratches to prove it. So, we immediately set...

Can my baby learn to walk on hardwood floors?

Unless the price has gone up, recently, Costco hallway runners were/are only $9.99. We used them exclusively until our buns learned how to cope with slick floors. One of our rabbits absolutely refused to leave carpets and rugs; but, after a few months it got the hang of walking on smooth...

    Any budget friendly rabbit items?

What is cardboard? Usually it is made out of wood pulp. Wood pulp is mostly cellulose, the same as grass or hay. In a nutshell, there's nothing to worry about if you bun eats ordinary cardboard.

    Any budget friendly rabbit items?

Corrugated cardboard boxes with two openings for doorways; cotton terrycloth hand towels; old tee-shirt; pine chew-blocks (untreated lumber scraps); small cardboard boxes, such as used for toothpaste packaging, etc. Our buns generally ignore store-bought toys, except for stacking cups. We...

    Buy Cottotail Rabbits

We, too, have built a large brush pile to provide security for our cottontails. We are also fortunate to have plenty of juniper shrubs where coyotes and raccoons can't go; but, the bunnies can. We didn't, however, know if our efforts were paying off until we set up trail cameras. They...

    Buy Cottotail Rabbits

We are also cottontail fans and encourage them on our property. For a long time we thought they had been wiped out by vehicle traffic and predators because we no longer saw them grazing in the evening. But... we set up a trail camera and are pleased that it is capturing hundreds of pictures...

Bunny ate rubber- please help I'm freaking out

We've had this happen many times. For the first few dozen episodes we were concerned; but, it has never been a problem. One of our buns has eaten everything from crutch tips, to rubber boots to leather shoes and everything in between. So far, no problems. :)

Is it a good idea to rescue a meat rabbit?

I am grateful to all of you who have contributed your thoughts, here. Some excellent wisdom has emerged that I've shared with others. It has been a very good discussion. Thank you, all.

    Poopy bum

We have a sweet little doe that has had occasional GI issues all her life; I can't count the times we've rushed her to the vet because of GI stasis. We thought we had all the problems resolved; but soon after the loss of her bonded buddy it happened, again. The good docs took care of her...

    Dehydration

We threw away our water bottles and use bowls, instead. We thought we were doing the right thing by having TWO water bowls next to the pellets and hay. However, we still wondered if one of our does was getting enough water. So, we bought several non-tip kitty bowls from Dollar Tree, scattered...
