Hi all!
Could you please share your wisdom on leaving a bunny for a whole week while on vacation? We have one friend coming once a day to help care for him. He's an only bunny and used to two children and a house of movement/sounds/ life 😉. He's free to roam between two rooms and the hallway, but we are limiting his space while we are away, to keep him safe. (Just shutting our bedroom off) He spends a lot of his time under our bed now. He tends to get into mischief mostly in that room, and I figure, if he's bored he will eat through all of our blankets and probably my bed itself. 🤣
Should we enlist another person to come do a second check in the day for company or maybe get him a new toy for the week.....? Any other wisdom that may help? Maybe he'll be perfectly fine with some peace and quiet.

Here he is nearby my rocker, as I drink my coffee and read my Bible. He's so sweet. 😁

If you have some time before your vacation and your friend is able to, it might be helpful for your friend to come visit you a few times, just for your bun to get some pre exposure to them while you're still around. I would try and do a time when your rabbit is more active, and have your friend sit with your bun and offer favorite foods, and pets if your bun likes that.

I'd also start leaving some background music/sound on during the day. Then when you're gone, leave it on so the house isn't completely quiet for your bun.

If your bun isn't ever, or rarely, shut up in a room or restricted access, doing this while you're gone may lead to issues, as you mentioned. So just be ready for that. Personally, I'd be worried the door, or a wall even, could get chewed through in an effort for your bun to break out. Maybe a baby gate and some extra bunny proofing could be helpful.

Lastly, make sure you brief your friend on the warning signs of a rabbit not feeling well (eg not eating or significantly reduced appetite, changes in poop, unusual lethargy, loud tooth grinding, etc) and leave instructions and vet info in case of an emergency.

Such wonderful advice.
Update: I got a second friend to come by every day. He's now got 2 check ins a day. I feel so much better about that, and can hopefully relax on my vacation, now. I did tell my husband to set up a pet cam in his room so we can periodically check in, but with two friends to feed, clean and check for poops, I'm sure he'll be good. I also ordered some new toys to keep him busy. I couldn't help myself. 🤪
