Why does a fire always attract a crowd?

A house in the subdivision is currently burning and it's crazy here. Three fire trucks, several volunteer personell vehicles - and the entire community is milling around.

All I can see is the smoke rising but I just don't feel compelled to go gawk. I feel so bad for the family this is happening to but I'm aggrivated at the people milling around.

I just saw a few police cruisers pull into the area, maybe they'll make the unnecessary people leave. I sure hope so.

Moths to a flame.

That poor family.I hope they are all ok.

Some of the milling people might have been evacuated from surrounding houses, but the rest are just nosey.

When taking a self-defense course at a company I used to work for, I was so shocked when the first piece of advice to the women was "YELL FIRE, NOT HELP or RAPE!" People run from things that could be dangerous with another person. They run to a fire........ sad isn't it?

I hope the family is ok. We've had a couple of bad fires in Indiana this weekend.

Last Thanksgiving my dad's unattached garage caught on fire. One of his idiot friends threw a lit cigarette in a pile of dried leaves. I was outside in the cold holding my cat crying and no one thought to ask me if I needed a blanket or something. They were all bad mouthing my dad and some people actually called it in as a meth lab blowing up rather than just a fire so we had the arson team investigating too. Stupid neighbors.

Poor family! Hopefully the damage isn't too extensive... People are so nosy. This past summer, there was a 6 hour police stand off involving a crazy man shooting out a 2nd floor window at people outside. This is a residential area and people were just coming out of the woodwork to try to get close, even bringing their small children! Even though there was a dude with a gun SHOOTING! Mind boggling. The police were able to get the people to leave, but a lot of them were still slinking around the perimeter when the cops blocked off the area. When they removed the blocks after the guy was arrested, people just came pouring into the area, at least a couple hundred, even though it was past midnight. A lot of people even drove over and brought their cameras because they heard about it on the news. I remained in my house, but maybe I should have set up a souvenir stand outside :foreheadsmack:

With the wildfires we have here in SoCal, it's amazing how many people have to be told not to drive over to look at the fires.
