So my rabbit died 5 years ago now, but it still really gets to me. He was the only rabbit I have ever owned, and was with me until he died aged 4.

The thing that upsets me the most is that I don't actually know why he died. He was very healthy, he ran around the garden during the day and was fully vaccinated. The day before he died I noticed he had some red spots/lumps on his skin, and I had booked a vets appointment for him. Do you think these were related to his death? I feel he knew he was going to die as he had voluntarily climbed into hutch (where I found him) which is not something he usually does.

Does anyone have any answers for me? I am terrified that there is some way I could have prevented his death.

Anything out of the ordinary could be related to why he dies such as the red spots/lumps on him although I have no idea if there is a bunny illness that would present with those symptoms or not.

He may have not been feeling well and that may be why he climbed into the hutch. Being a prey animal I would think it's very possible that they have the instinct to hide when not feeling well.

I am sorry for your loss. Buns are very good at hiding pain and illness even with that you did notice something was not right and did what a responsible and caring owner should do, you sought help.

I'm sorry to hear about your bun and that his death still haunts you. It sounds like you did everything right; you noticed the bumps and you booked an appointment.
