I have bunny proofed my small walk in closet already but was wondering if any on the other rooms in my apt woudld be good to let the bunnies out in. I do NOT think that my bedroom would be good since there are cords galore (I have 7 aquariums running in there, they take up most of the wall space). In my living room I also have LOTS of cords at bunny level along one wall. The dining room is part of the of the living room. The kitchen conects to the dining room. I was wondering which room I should bunny proof and how to go about that.

I do have 1 MAJOR problem with letting the rabbits run around outside of their cage. My dog Cookie (chocolate dapple dachshund) has killed multiple other rabbits and chickens in the past. Cookie thinks that she owns the apartment. She barks and wines constantly when she is not in the room with me. I can barley take a shower without her complaining. I am 99.99999999% sure that if she was in the room that the rabbit was running around in, that the rabbit would end up dead and eaten.

Could your dog climb into a 4-ft tall exercise pen? If not, that would work for the rabbits.

However, it also sounds like your dog needs some obedience training or something.

My problem with the exercise pen is 1) getting it up a steep flight of stairs. 2) I am worried that Cookie might bite the rabbit through the pen.

#2 brings up another point. I am planning on building a NIC cage on Sunday or Monday for the new bunny that I am getting on Friday. I was going to put it where the current cage is but I might put a pen around the NIC cage for extra security. (I have a small short light weight one that a friend gave me).

Do you think that the kitchen would be a good place to let the rabbits run around it? I have a baby gate that I can put up in the entrance to the kitchen.

If you only have to take it upstairs once, it shouldn't be a problem for you. I'm retired, so not exactly a kid any more, but know I could co it with the pen folded & maybe having to stop & catch my breath. I might end up walking it up the last steps, ie moving one side up a step & resting it on the step, then moving the other side up as well.

2) I am worried that Cookie might bite the rabbit through the pen. You could put some kind of netting over the pen, fastened at the top & bottom with those pinch clips used to hold lots of sheets of paper together. However, I don't think it every would be safe to have them both in the same room at once, whether or not you are there. I'm just afraid that sooner or later there will be a breach in security & that will be the end of your rabbit. Just like has happened with people on the forum who had an accidental breeding of unfixed rabbits that never ever were be together. The only other recourse I can think of is to muzzle the dog & I doubt you'd be willing to do that.
