When you bring home a new rabbit, do you keep it seperate from all of your other rabbits for a certain amount of time? Like in a seperate room etc?

I brought home my new buck this weekend.. On Sunday actually. I have kept him in the house for now, to get used us. Then, I was planning on moving him outside with the rest of my rabbits. Of course they are seperated from eachother anyways in the hutches.

I was not impressed with how he came to me! :( I bought him frm a lady who lives about 2 hours away from me, as there arent many mini rex around here. Anyways, the lady seemed like she was in a hurry, I didnt even really have a chance to look him over and she was gone! Well, I got him in my car and took him out of the box she had brough him in, and his toe was bleeding.. and nt just a little. I got the bleeding to stop. So I sent her an email asking her what happened..and she said she hadnt even noticed it! She said it must have happened when she was catching him, because the cage is all wire.

But, I got him fixed up.. just waiting for it to heal. He is almsot 7 weeks old. He is such a sweet heart though.. a little scared of us still but once you have him in your arms.. he enjoys it.. or seems to anyways. Will post pics later on.

If je looks healthy, you can put him near your other bunnies. Which one did you end up getting?

I ended up getting the little orange and white one. He was the better choice. While I liked the way the other one looked.. the personality just wasnt what I wanted. He was very squirmish, he just did not seem like a rabbit that I would want. The little one that I have now is great. I just had him out again, and he is very calm and seems much more relaxed now.

Just waiting on my photos to finish uploading to photobuck, so I can post a few on here of him. Still trying to figure out a name for him.

We try to keep new rabbits separate from our others but usually we buy rabbits at shows so judges get really good looks at them before we take them and if any DQs or sickness is noticed we then can deal with it. As long as you checked him over well then he should be okay but just watch him in a separate room. Be careful when you move him outside. Temperature changes can shock bunnies especially if he is going from nice cool ac to hot outside temps. If its too hot outside (85+) when you move him try to only keep him out at night and then move him in the ac during the hot parts of the day just slowly transitioning him.

Make sure to feed him lots and lots of hay since he is so young and watch out for jelly like stools.

Congrats on your new boy :)

Thanks for the tips Woahlookitsme!! I will do both of those for sure. The temp. isnt that hot here actually. But I want to transition him the right way when it comes time.

Here is a couple pictures of the new little guy.

He is a cutie, but to me he doesn't look like a purebred Mini Rex.

His ears are HUGE. I'm assuming he's a Broken Red - I don't know much about broken reds in MR, so not sure if they are recognized or not; I only know that solid reds are.

As far as quarantine goes, I'd never done it when bringing new animals in, but in the future I would like to have a separate little area for quarantine.
