I wasn't sure where to post this. I was wondering when I should seperate my baby male and female? I don't want babies cause they are for one, half brother and sister. Two I'm getting them spayed and neutered. The (vet) Doctor told me I should seperate them when their 8 weeks old, and the male will be 8 wks the end of this week. But I was told it's not necessary to seperate them that early and it will just add, added stress to the babies. So I don't know what to do.

Can someone please make it clear for me what I should do? Should I wait a little longer before seperating? I don't want to stress the babies. I want to do whats best for them.

Thanks for any suggestions,:) April

You don't really need to separate them until between 10-12 weeks of age, as long as they are getting along. But they should definitely be separated by 12 weeks because bucks are mature enough to breed at this time.

Ok.. :thanks: The doctor said I could waittil 10 weeks old, but no longer. So I'll do that. Cause they still get along and snuggle up, and play together. It will be sad to sepeate them til their spayed and neutered. Then I'll rebond them.

Thanks, :)April

10 weeks is a good age to separate. And usually by then, they are OK alone. If you get them neutered/spayed at the same time, don't put them together until she is completely healed. (at least 2 weeks) If you only get him "done", he can not be with her for 8 weeks after the surgery... it takes that long for him to stop producing sperm.

They should bond back to each other very willingly afterwards.

Ok...Thank youfor the info. :)April

I had an 12 week old Mini Rex buck breed his sister... (12 weeks and ONE DAY!!!). I know because I seperated them at 12 weeks andTWO DAYS of age... and she kindled 30 days later (unexpectantly and unprepared!). Imagine MY surprise! (Yeah, I counted on the calander... and fingers... !) I'm quite sure it's not the norm, but why take a chance...

Ummm... yeah... and I didn't know it was a buck until I re-checked at 12 weeks and2 days! But I didn't think he "got" her...
