What's a good way to keep track of your breeding?

I keep all my records written as its easier to take out to shed and weigh up who I want to mate tgether :)I know few people use software but don't know which ones they use and have found that they are not able to store the info that I want

I keep all my records in a binder that I also bring to shows with me.

I don't usually keep records of my breeding, I just right it down on the calendar when they're due, how many are born, etc. Soon I will be keeping records of that though.

I keep in my binder: pedigrees, comment cards from shows, show catalogs, weights of the bunnies, show reports, rabbit show dates, and anything else that is important. We're going to add a section in there about our rabbitry (including all policies) so that at shows people and other rabbit breeders/owners can look at our set-up, see our policies, and more :)

I use Evans software. I think it's only $69 for the basic program and it is awesome. It tracks everything to do with pedigrees and is very simpe to use. I also write breeding dates down on a calendar in the rabbitry.

Emily, if you don't have a software program for your pedigrees please bring copies of your pedigrees to shows and not the original. I know of more than one breeder who lost their pedigree book and was out of luck because it was their only copy.

Oh yes Roger, I make several copies of my pedigrees, I don't bring the originals to shows ;) I don't keep them in the pedigree book, I rip them out, make a copy, and put the copies in the binder. The originals go into a file in the filing cabinet.

I use Evans Software too. The guys there are very helpful if you havequestion or a problem.

Emily, you really should keep track of your breedings and the babies. Any problems in the litter should be noted and the colors and the sexs too. This way if a person who buys a rabbit from you has a problem, it can easily be tracked. Also, take down the name and address of anyone who buys your rabbits and which rabbit they bought. This is because if a person looses a pedigree or has a question, it is easy to figure out which rabbit they bought.

I too have a notebook (actually a few) which is for records. Anything that happens with regards to the rabbits gets written down. I keep track of breedings, births, deaths, vet visits, shows, sellings, purchases, and anything else that is out of the ordinary.

I also have separate books to list how I did at a show, and all the rabbits that ever passed through my rabbitry.

If my computer ever crashes or Evans Software crashes, I have hard-copies of all the info. It would probably take me YEARS to put everything back in but at least I wouldn't lose it all.

Oh, and there are free pedigree sheets out there on the internet. Do a search for rabbit pedigrees or something. You can even make up your own, no need to use an "official" one.

I also use the Evans Software to track all my breedings and programs. I also write down all the breedings and due dates on the calander in the rabbitry. And I have a printed copy of all the pedigrees in a binder that I take to shows or out to the barn. I have not found a Freeware program that works.
