My friend (one of my best) Caitlyn is a new mommy and lives with her baby, her boy friend, and their kitty.

They adopted a pit bull, Bella, from the pound a week ago. The dog hates cats, so the cat has been locked up inside of a bedroom for the past week.

Bella is BEAUTIFUL. She is potty trained, sits & shakes & lays down, walks nicely on a leash, licks you until you have to push her away, loves car rides, loves other dogs, loves their 6 month old baby and gives her kisses, and she thinks she's a lap dog.

Caitlyn is trying to "sell" Bella because her condo said she is not allowed such a breed. I am not sure if she just means "rehome"....or actually SELL her. I told her not to do it, to wait and let me find Bella a great home. It is too risky here. People in this area, and in Phoenix, want Pit Bulls, for god-knows-what. Bella is spayed, so she can't be used for breeding....but she does have cropped "put bull" ears. This makes people want her just because she looks like a mean tough dog.

I met Bella a few days ago, and had an instant connection with her. If Ryan and I had a house, we agreed we would take her in a heart beat. This isn't possible now, but if everything goes right with Ryan's promotion at work...then we could end up getting a house to rent at the beginning of the summer. Just a small one, two bedroom...enough for the 3 buns and my large rat cage), possibly a doggie. I'm not getting my hopes up on a house this time around, though.

I LOVE pit bulls. I am not afraid of them. When we walked Bella around PETsMART and downtown, people would grab their kids and pick them up, tell their kids not to touch Bella, they would pick up their little dogs when we walked by....like Bella was a monster.

There is something about Bella that makes her so special. She is the perfect dog, in all honesty. I am sure you all know of the connection I am talking about. Like, when you see a picture of an animal on petfinder and feel that rush and wanting?

What I want to know, is HOW do I go about finding Bella a new home....and FAST? Is a foster home possible? If she goes back to the pound, she will be PTS....she was already there for a month, and Caitlyn adopted her when she had only a few days left to live.

I'm really worried for Bella. If you don't like pit bulls because of their "reputation", please look past it and help me try to help Bella :?.

Bella....

What a pretty girl! She has teddy bear ears, so cute! Sorry I don't have any advice, just wanted to wish you luck and comment on the pup. Good luck and thanks for trying to find a home for her! I love pit bulls too.

Thank you, Shiloh. I have no clue where to look for a home/rescue for her. I am not even sure if Caitlyn will be willing to let me help her.

If she turns around and "sells" Bella, I will freak out. Bella was $100 ADOPTED from the Humane Society.....Caitlyn could easily sell her around here for $300 :grumpy::?.

I'm just so irritated. I wish I had my own place already.

Bella is such a cutie. Have you tried looking on petfinder for a pit bull or bully rescue? I know we have a couple here in Ohio (or at least we did). You could contact one of them and see what they think. Also, and this is a stretch, some police/SAR/working dog groups will test pit bulls to see if they can go into their program and become working dogs. Either way, I hope a good home is found for Bella. Good luck.

are there any pit bull rescues in the area? i would try contacting them

then i would see if there are any breeder groups (like rabbits have the michigan holland lop club, ect) they might be able to help. what about talking to the human society again.

what i can't understand is why she would adopt a pit bull if it was one the bad breed list for were she lives.

she really is a pretty girl, i love the breed, it is sad that they have a bad rep. i don't think i have ever met a pitty that was bad.

I can try contacting rescue groups, but Bella is not my dog. I can't make the choice where she goes :?.

I'm going to try to talk with Caitlyn tomorrow to see if she would like my help *keeps fingers crossed*.

That is such a hard situation. This rescue in AZ is good: http://www.valleyofthesundogrescue.com/

I work with Wisconsin Independant Pit Bull Rescue, but I think they are financially maxed out right now. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WI212.html

In Missouri I also have contacts with Mutts N Stuff Rescue: http://muttsandstuff.com/- Go to Stories, and Memorials and you'll meet "my Destiny")

I'm actually working pretty hard right now trying to get some pit assistance. I can't adopt outany brought into the pound but I can get them into rescue. Unfortunantly the pound is maxed out - and actually overcrowded this morning, and we're to be audited on Friday.

I'll be making a lot of calls again today in hopes that some can get moved around quickly but I know chances are good that I'll have to open up space today if any incoming dogs come.

I'll try to get some contacts for you - most bully rescues have widespread contacts. Maybe someone could even find a foster home or will know of a person looking to adopt thatmay be a match in your area or transport route.

I dont' know anything about this, but I do remember a story where someone famous in the USa adopted a dog, couldn't handle it, so rehomed it, and when the pound she had adopted it from found out, they went and took the dog off the new owners because it went against the contract, or something. So,erm, does she had a contract or anything she signed when she got Bella? Poor dog being passed from pillar to post.

Thats a very good point. Hopefully we can come up with rescue backing for her before any decisions are made. If they can't keep her and present it to the place they adopted her from when/if rehoming is needed therre is a great chance she'll be turned over to a rescue immediatly.

Otherwise - she's a hard breed to adopt out, cat agressive and had already been up for adoption a long time. Returns generally don't have a good rate of going back up for adoption either. :(

She's gorgeous! I love big dogs, I don't like the little yappy ones, they've always tried to bite me way more than larger dogs have and they scare me. Yes, I'm scared of tiny dogs!

I really hope something god works out for Bella. It's so sad that she thought she had a home and now she has to be passed over again, poor girl.

I am about to try to email dog rescue groups in the Prescott area. A pittie might not be something they will take in, though.

Caitlyn said she would like some help with finding Bella a home or a rescue group. With rescue groups, she will be placed in a foster home, and not a kennel at a shelter. The pound here is horrid. I think it's a "whatever" if they want to return her or not. This is the pound, not the humane society or a rescue.

I'll keep you guys updated on Miss Bella.
