What hay do you normally buy?

I personally don't really rate the hay at Pets At Home, but either the Timothy Hay bags, or the Excel herbage is good... I've always found their Meadow hay to be really dusty and not popular with my buns at all.:(

You might want to try looking around for a local feed shop, there's surprisingly more than you think around!

Or these websites:

West Wales Willows Timothy Hay

The Hay Experts

Dust Free Hay

I buy mine in a meadow mix from a horse feed shop just down the road- a bag about 6 times the size of what you get in P@H for £2, and it lasts for weeks and my buns love it. Then I just buy a small bag of timothy/oat hay online to supplement it with, and try different stuff each time..

West Wales Willows will send you a free sample- a small cardboard box full, all you have to pay is the shipping which is £2.50ish. Their Timothy is really good and the buns loved it!

Whew, I'm all hayed out now! :)

Thanks Jen!

I brought Timothy Hay! :biggrin2:
No worries! Just out of curiousity, what hay do you normally buy? If you can get it from a feed shop round near you it's usually much nicer quality and cheaper too. I know the manager of one of our local stores and she said she doesn't buy her hay from there either lol! :)

I normally get timothy hay as well ! I will look at a few of those websites because I don't think mum will wanna cart me off to a feed store! You know these are the times where I wish i could drive to take the buns to the vets and go to feed stores!

I know that all too well! Since not being able to drive I have to rely on Steve to take me EVERYWHERE, but luckily he doesn't mind going for hay lol :p

There was another site we were buying hay from for a while that was good too.... I will try and find the link for you, because it was quite cheap and good stuff..

Thanks jen! I'm just about to look at those links above now and talk about it with mum see what she says!

So what am i looking for timothy hay?

EDIT: Im on the hay experts one omg theres so many which hay do I pick?

Please help me Jen

Any kind really! Timothy is great but you can give your bun any of the hay from those links... Mine really like Oat hay, or Brome, Herbal mix... the Meadow hay they do is great... The Hay Experts does a 'taster' pack where you get all different kinds of hay as samples, so you can find out what they like and then order that! :biggrin2:

Mine also love the Orchard blue grass too!

All the bags are roughly the same price- it's cheaper on shipping to order a few bags at a time, which also lasts longer as well!

I can't recomment The Hay Experts highly enough- apart from the hay, all their toys etc are so great, and cheaper than Pets At Home as well! :D

Okay thanks and also do you buy your food from there? Which one do you use becuase your buns are really healthy and I want mine to have the right food and hay and was wondering becuase the food prices are much cheaper i spend 7 pounds on a 4 kg bag of food today and on the hay experts its like 3 pounds :shock:Just wondering which one you use!

EDIT: I was thinking about the wagg optimum premium food is that alright?

EDIT (AGAIN): Silly old mum says its no different so basically the answer to getting food from there is a NO :grumpy:

We use Oxbow Bunny Basics T pellets- they sell them on there... It's a little more expensive but I love it and personally feel it's worth the money..

I've heard good things about Science Selective pellets too, but I also know members who use the Burgess Supa Excel too with no problems... It's really about what agrees with your buns... You want a decent fibre content, which is why I like the Oxbow as it's one of the highest fibre contents I've seen which works better for Barney and Snowy's stomachs...

How old are Dippy and Fluffball?

Dippy and Fluffball are about 8 months old - but it doesnt matter now read the post i just edited above :grumpy:
Oh, that's a shame... :( Did you explain to her about the difference in fibre content in certain foods?

I hope you can at least get some hay from there for them- I reckon they'd love the taster packs! :)

If your buns like different types of hay Becca, they might also enjoy Barley Straw. Fluffy used to love sticking her head right in to pile of it and eating lots. She was even more enthusiastic about it than her normal Meadow Hay. Barley Straw is probably best only used as a feed though, its rather too dry and sharp to make good nesting material.

I buy mine at my local 'Happy Shopper' grocers, it's dust-extracted and costs about £3.20 for a large, tightly packed bag.

About wishing you could drive: Me too, I'm reliant on lifts to places from my Dad or Brother.

Don't know if there's one near you but I bought a bale of Timothy and Alfalfa for $8.99 at Agway.
