Last night I was going to bed and I have my room in the basement so we were walking down the stairs when I turned and walked back up to get a glass of water but as soon as I turned my back away, Sparky went from the top step, straight down to the bottom carpet. He started screaming, like literally screaming. I went down and picked him up.
Since then he's been keeping his back left leg above ground except when he 'forgets' and trys to walk on it then he just ends up screaming again.
His nose is really hot, too.
If he doesn't get better by tonight we're going to take him to the vets.
But in the meantime, he's been sleeping, and i've been giving him baby aspirin (his vet told us to give it to him because he had knee problems since he was a baby)
What could it be?
I know it's not broken, since he can take a few steps on it. It's not his nails, or his bottom pads either.
Poor thing wont eat at all, only thing he'll ingest is my tea (hehe I poured some on the ground to see)

Maybe your dog (its a dog right?) was on the top of the stairs and was looking down and he had his paw too near to the edge, then slipped and couldn't control his fall :?

He is probably is lots(well maybe not lots) of pain right now, that's why he doesn't have an appetite. Em.. if his knee problem hurts him regulary he could of hurt it even more

I've no idea for certain, what it could be!

I really hope he will be alright :hearts:pray::clover::bunny24:pet::hug::biggrin2::)

Oh, I just wrote in your other thread and then saw this one.

My recommendation: Get him to a vet as soon as you can. It could be a sprain, a torn ligament, a fracture (with a hairline fracture an animal might still put some weight on it, but it would be quite painful). You won't get a diagnosis over the internet, and if he's not eating and showing stress with that leg, you can assume that he's in a fair amount of pain.

I know baby aspirin doesn't provide a lot of relief if it's severe pain, but did want to mention that giving a dog (or any pet) pain reliever before knowing what the problem is could potentially cause more harm, because if the pain is alleviated somewhat, the animal would be prone to use the limb more, and could potentially cause more damage.

Best call on this would be to get him in to the vet, definitely.

I hope he's okay again soon.

Is it the same leg that his knee hurts on?

I would take him to the vet. I usually figure if my dog hurts himself and doesn't stop limping after a little while(30mins or so) there is something wrong, more then he just banged it or twisted it, and should be checked out. I'd especially take him since your dog is so little, he fell down the whole flight of stairs and has had previous leg/knee problems.

Also, did you call the vet to ask if taking the asprin was ok for this injury? I would hold off on any meds until the vet checks him out. You could try and ice/cold pack.

If he's not bearing weight on it and not eating either, I'd definitely take him to a vet asap!

I'm not sure how old he is, but I know with my senior dog she occasionally sprains something and she'll limp a bit but be fine later, but she'll certainly still have her appetite.

He actually has problems with both of them.

After I posted this I went into the living room with him and I walked into the kitchen and opend a bag of chips and he came running, using all paws.
So, I was thinking he may have been .. (hmm, how to put it) making it seem like it hurt more then it did. I have no doubt he hurt himself last night, but the way he was running, it must'nt of hurt THAT much.
We called and they said to keep giving him some asprin every 4-6 hours and watch him.
He has eaten a DentaStix bone, and jumped on the couch when my mom sat down.
He even 'begged' to go outside.

Anyways,
We're going to watch him tonight, since he doesnt seem to be in as much pain, and take him in the morning.

All the poor thing wants to do is sleep, so i may set him up in my bed with his blankey..as long as he doesnt try to jump down

My teeny JRT, (about the size of a cat), was always hurting her leg as a young puppy (she is 6 months now). It would hurt for a few hours and then be fine. One time she hurt her leg and limped for 24 hours, we brought her to the vet and after 48 hours she was fine again. It was probably just ''bruised'', like with humans sometimes your hurt your leg and it takes a few days to come right again.

Sparky has NO luck
He was in my room (with me) and I was sitting on a chair infront of my vanity and he pawed at his crate, for me to open the door of it and I had put a 5 tierd light temporarily ontop of it.
The entire light came crashing down, the very tip of the top teir hit his shoulder area.

I think I need to keep him padded with pillows and blankets.

( If I take him to the vet now, their going to think it's abuse XD .. a bruised shoulder, fell down the stairs... eugh)

But he's doing good.
I bought him some more pee-pads today (he can't go out when it gets too cold) and the girl at the store gave me a horrible look when I said my 2 year old dog couldn't go out so we needed the pads.

In all honesty (sorry if I sound harsh), but I think you need to stop making excuses and get him to the vet. Just because he might seem fine, doesn't mean that he is. Prolonging the issue will only make it worse :(. Being over weight isn't healthy for him either...it is going to cause major health issues ($$$) in the future!

Theres only one vet in Ottawa open on weekends.
we refuse to bring him there.
They almost killed him when he was a pup.

They gave him the wrong medicine,
and over dosed the medicine.
then they put him under anesthetics and dragged him on the floor by his leash

Anyways,
he's walking on it and it looks alot better but he didn't drink this morning (that I saw) or eat so I opend a tub of beneful wet food. That wasn't the best idea, guess it was too harsh on his stomach and it came right back up.

I'd definitely get him on a diet, or you might not have him as long as you would want. He'd be much happier too :)My fat doggy is currently on a diet too! She has lost 0.4kg

The weird thing is, he doesn't even eat the amount 'doggie diets' say, he eats much less.
With hardly any treats.
But the winter is really hard because when it's really cold, snowy or slippery I can't take him out because of his knee problems.
This summer, watch out, he'll be a bodybuilder ;)
