What colour eyes do blue rabbits have?

Thanks :)

I have two 4 week old ones that I think are blue, their eyes seem kinda blueish-brown, if that makes sense. Or blueish grey, with almost a reddish hint . . . hard to describe. :)

The dad is black with brown eyes, the mother is tort/vienna marked with one brown eye and one half blue/half brown eye (which I guess is because she's vienna marked)

I had another look and one baby (solid blue or I think they're blue anyway, I'll post pics) has blue/grey eyes, and the other (vienna marked blue), her eyes are more brownish or reddish, but still not as brown as the others in the litter, who are all black. When taking photos of them with a flash their eyes glow red, but the rest of the litters' eyes don't. And sometimes they just look slightly like they have a red hue to them.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm really new to rabbit colours and all :)

Do you think they look blue? Btw the are double maned so they have some lighter hair coming in on their faces

I couldn't get a good pic of the eyes, but you can see this one has blueish/grey eyes

The vienna marked throws a monkey wrench into things. The blue eyes are probably passed down from her. Chocolate in the lines usually causes a red glow to the eyes...

But the one that is all blue is the one with bluer eyes, could she be a vienna carrier without having white markings?

Also their eyes are much darker than the mother's blue colour, would they get lighter when they're older, or stay the same do you think?

Thanks anyway :)

I don'tthink the babies look bue, but it may just be the lighting.

Blue rabbits are supposed to have blue-grey eyes.
Any rabbit that is not Vienna Marked but has a vienna parent is a vienna carrier.
And yes, there are rabbits that inherit the blue eyes from the vienna genes and do not have any white markings on them.

The first baby in your pictures looks like she has a white spot on her forehead. If you can verify this, that would make her a VM (vienna marked).

I'm confused. I thought that if a rabbit had two vienna genes it would be a BEW, and if it has one it's a vienna carrier/vienna marked?

Yes the first baby has a white spot on her head nose and white front paws, like her mom. But the second one has no white at all.

And yeah, I don't know about the babies being blue . . . just thought since the others are black, perhaps these are blue. They seem a bit dark, but are definitely not black . . . I guess the photos make them look that bit darker too.

You are correct. But a rabbit does not have to be vienna marked to be a vienna carrier. They are not the same thing.

Once, someone who raises BEW's here in Texas got an Opal colored baby out of her rabbits. It looked completely normal, no white marks and no blue eyes. It was from all BEW and VM stock. It is still considered a vienna carrier even though it doesn't look like a vienna in any way.

They both look like seals. This is a shaded color, like a very dark siamese sable. The baby picture seems to confirm my suspicion. I did the same thing when I had seal babies. I thought they were blue until they started to turn brown/black.

Thanks :)

I had another look at their eyes, I swear they keep changing colour! Now the VM one looks like she has brown eyes, just not quite as dark as the blacks in the litter do. The other one, looks like paler eyes, greyish . . . maybe they are still brown, but are definitely a lot lighter.

It's very confusing with rabbits, all the different colours, I'm used to cats, they have simple colours . . . but it's very interesting. :)

I took a few more pics of the babies, in the evening sunlight just to see if they look different. In the first pictures they looked darker than real life maybe, but in these they look better.

See their baby pic next to the new ones, they do look like they've gotten darker than they were. When they were born they had very pale grey skin, and started to get a light silvery colour, before it got darker.

The one with no white markings and paler eyes

I don't really mind what colour they are, but interesting to find out :)

Oh yeah, the blue is much much lighter. Thanks so much :)

I looked up some photos of seals and I think you're probably right :)
