My bun-bun Lola is litter trained for when she is on free roam, but when she is caged her usual corner becomes HEAVILY caked with excrement. I usually have to scrape with a cheap childrens' beach shovel that I purchased at the dollar store. I change her bedding (Carefresh) every 3-5 days and make sure to apply an generous coating.

What is something safe I can lay down under her bedding to make her home cleanup easier?

Ive heard mixed opinions about newspaper and the best solution i can think of is are wee wee pads but I am sure if she shreds one apart that is no good for her health.

Suggestions please? ImageUploadedByRabbit Forum1398127281.474239.jpg

I use yesterdays news instead. The pellets dont get as "sticky" as the carefresh and theres no scraping needed.

I use a thin layer of horse stall pellets and on top of that place a thin layer of kiln dried pine shavings. Shavings should be kiln dried to be safe. Both types of litter are inexpensive .

Yep use the same thing. I had used Carefresh once before but found it didn't do very well at controlling odor or keeping things clean and neat and just made a big, smelly, mess for me. ;)

Can you put a litter box in that spot? A corner one might work well. It would be easy to clean rather than trying to clean the whole cage.

Cleaning that spot more often might be needed as well. I have a couple buns that use a corner box and only go in the corner. I have to scoop it daily as it does build up fast.

Ours all have litter boxes filled with Kiln dried Pine that we change daily. We also have several pans around their room filled with shredded newspaper which gets dumped weekly.

The best thing we've found to use in Jovis litterbox is wood burning pellets. They absorb the smell of the urine and its easy to just scoop out the wet sawdust in the corner of the box she uses. Then we just redistribute the pellets, adding when needed.

I use Yesterday News made by Purina. Its really easy to clean and it absorbs the odors real well. I do use a small corner littler box which is actually getting a bit small for my Momma bunny, so i actually have to clean it every 2-3 days.

Oh yeah forgot to add that I clean my bun's box every other day and use a corner litter box.
