What Breed?

We adopted Spencer a few weeks ago. What breed do you think he is? I thought a Palomino but I think he's a mix. He has a white belly and white stripes under his chin.

I love how everyone always assumes their adopted, pet rabbit is pure... COUGH. At a show this weekend this little girl had a mutt she wanted to enter in the show. Of COURSE we let her... but we didn't know how to explain to her that 'Oreo' the beloved family pet was a mutt.

He looks to be the average joe of the bunny world. No matter, since he's a pet. IF he was purebred anything (which is a far stretch), the white striping on his chest could indicate that he'd be a cull from a BEW breeding program.

I think he definitly looks like he has some Palomino, I will come back to this thread a littl bit later after I look through a list of breeds lol I'm not all that great with all those different breeds I'm good with my French Angoras xD

Also where did she "assume" her rabbit was purebred? She said he looks like a palomino, but he is probably just a mix.

I didn't think he was a purebred as I mentioned in my post. I thought he was a mix of Palomino (and someone else stated Rex, which was my second guess). It doesn't matter to me because I am not showing him. He is a pet and I was just curious. All my pets have been mutts. My first childhood mutt dog lived to be 18years old and was never sick a day in his life.

Autumn came first, then we got Bella a week later because we knew Autumn was lonely. We've had them since January. They are too sweet. We nickname Bella "Squishy" because she is so squishy! Bella is the quiet one, but boy, she's the first to defend Autumn against Spencer the bunny. They get along a little, but normally, poor Spenc needs to go back into his cage while the pigs enjoy their exercise time.

As Erin stated, it is probably a mixed breed bunny, and there are several things that support that thought.

1. The white on his chest. A rabbit out of purebred parents (even if he were a mix) would not have that marking unless he was a cull from a BEW breeding program.
2. To support that thought- he would then look more like a specific breed.

So since he doesn't, we can assume that he is probably a mix. Still a gorgeous boy though!

In any case, Spencer really is a beautiful rabbit, and like I said- his origins don't matter, since he's a pet.

I'll say it again- it was JUST a musing on the pet world. I'm perfectly aware that it does happen (and often, too!) but it just seems silly to me that the first question people ask when they adopt any animal, not just a rabbit, is 'what breed is it?' I've done the same thing on the occasion that we brought our dog home from the shelter.

When we got him on August 30, he weighed 6.5 lbs. He may be slightly more now.

could he possibly be a red new zealand (mix) he's got the big ears, somehow the pics make him look smaller than he is.
