I am new to this forum and see some intersting information on here. I haven't bred any rabbits but have two a male and female that I got just so the neighborhood kids can come play with them. I just bought them from a local store at two different times. I know they are two different breeds but can anyone tell me what kind.

The black and white is a female and the orange and white is a male.

It has been a while since I have added a pic to a forum so hope that these links work!

The black and white one is a dutch! :)

I'm not sure on the other one though.

They are adorable!

I thought maybe he is just some kind of mix but he is way bigger than my female. Not trying to sound dumb or anything but they haven't bred and I didn't know if they would or not because he is bigger than her and I haven't seen them try but they have been together for like 5 months now and I don't have any babies yet. Should I worry that they would breed? I don't want them to because he is bigger and I am scared that would hurt her but when I put them together, I watched them for a while and he would try but she would hop off and then he would just leave her alone.

Trust me -if it's a normal male, he will try to mate with her -blink your eyes, and 30ish so days later you will have baby bunnies.

If he is significantly larger then her, then yes, that will be a problem for her if she tries to deliver the babies.

Your best bet is to get him neutered - if they've already been there 5mos. then he is more than old enough to be neutered.

The female may not be interested now, but there will come a time when she will be receptive and like I said, it happens so quickly it's easily missed.

Not a breeder- but if you are not looking to have babies, I would seperate them completely. Are you sure of their genders? If they've been together for 5 months.. I'm guessing either they are both female or both male. Rabbits will breed at will if they are put together.. so the only way to avoid pregnancy is complete seperation. No play times - even if supervised since it takes a fraction of the second to do end up with a pregnant bunny. Doesalso can become pregnant directly after they givebirth, so if kept together, you have the chance of having a litter approx. every 30 days (dangerous to doe and major problems for you!)

Especially if he is larger than her and because they are on the young side, it may cause potential lethal problems if the doe were to get pregnant. Really best to seperate them or even spay/neuter if you are not looking to breed but keep them together.

Welcome to the forum too. Rabbits make amazing pets once you get to know them.. definitely are quite misunderstood!

The first one is a mismarked Dutch (maybe steel in color) and the second one I am not sure about..
The Dutch is actually a "gray" (properly marked).

Yes, I'd say like Spring, separate them completely and from prior experience, I know does can become impregnated immediately after birthing their litter
(we were very fortunate to find good homes for all the babies).

Yes, if they were a buck and doe you would already have babies by now. And as mentioned, the size difference wouldbe a very bad thing if they had bred.

Rabbits do not havea heat cycle like cats and dogs, they are what is called induced ovulators, which means the doe ovulates in response to being around the buck. They can get pregnant at any time past sexual maturity, which typically comes around 4-5 months of age. Gestation period is only 31 days, so if you had a pair you should have had five litters by now.
