I swear there was a thread on this already, but i couldnt find it so i will start another one.

I am currently reading The Darkest evening of the year by Dean Koontz

i am going to the library tonight, hopefully, and getting Perfect Nightmare by John Saul

so what are you reading, i am looking for some good horror, creepy, sinister type of books

GREAT thread idea Fran! I love reading. I'm planning a trip to my local used book store to stock up on summer reading soon too. When we camp in the summer I always end up reading great books. I read all the time, but I have a lot of time for it then at night.

I really like Dean Koontz - I haven't read the one you are reading yet though. LOL about the dark sinister books. I have a bunch, but that's not what I am reading right now, so this won't help on your quest. I am reading The Northern Lights by Lucy Jago, it's about Kristian Birkeland who was a scientist in Norway. One thing he did was study the Northern Lights. It's really interesting, but not scary LOL. It's been hard to get through at parts but I'm almost finished. Deciding what book to read next. I read everything, a lot of books on nature, but I love novels of all kinds. What is The Perfect Nightmare about? I might have to get that Dean Koontz book for my summer reading.

Love Bites By Lynsay Sands (Argeneau Series) They just reissued the first couple which this is part of. I had borrowed them from a friend than continued on my own. I am only missing a few.

Than back to Anita Blake series.

I have three books waiting to be read. :p

Donna perfect nightmare is about a teenage girl that goes missing and they think it is just your normal pissed teen that ran away. But here they find out that kids are starting to go missing from houses that are up for sale and having open houses, lol, creepy especially if you have ever had an open house lol

I also got a book that i am going to read to the kids every night for a little bit it is called The key to Rondo by Emily Rodda sounds pretty good and if the kids get bored t hen i will read it ,lol

Atm reading the last of David Gemmells triology of 'Troy'
I've been into a really big reading kick with this author - I LOVE his writing...I have never been a big fan of 'action/warfare books' but these just have so much real human dimension.

p.s. I agree- great idea Fran - I'm a compulsive reader - I was known to read encyclopedia when I started my reading 'kick' at around 9yrs...and haven't stopped reading since, lol.

I'm actually looking for a good mystery/suspense/psycho thriller book at the moment. I have a few I want to look into, but any recommendations?
I've been put off lately with starting to read books, then the story line just doesn't catch me at all, so gets boring.

Great topic! I love seeing what other people are reading and finding good books to add to my own " must read" list.

I have a couple books i'm reading right now. I usually like to have a few on the go, usually a fiction and a non fiction so I don't get bored.

I finally gave in and I'm reading Twilight. So far its definitely better then the movie. Not sure its living up to all its hype but its an easy fun read.

I'm also reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Its pretty good but I wish he went a bit deeper, gave more examples and showed more patterns. If you read Freakonomics and liked it, Outliers is very similar.

Some I just finished and liked

God: the failed hypothesis by Victor Stenger- Interesting read. Gives a scientific perspective to the god debate.

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn- A friend recommended this book and it was kind of weird but I liked it. Its about a family of geeks in a circus. If you are looking for something different, this is a good choice.

What i'm planning on reading next:

Banker to the poor: micro lending and the battle against world poverty by Muhammad Yunus- A friend just read this and recommened it. I recently saw an interview with Muhammad so i'm looking forward to learning more.

The southern vampires mysteries series by Chalaine Harris - I loved the show True Blood so I can't wait to read these.

I rarely read fiction. Except Neil Gaiman, I just adore his writing. Brilliant author.

I just finished: The Well Dressed Ape: A Natural History of Myself by Hannah Holmes
and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser

Fast Food Nation was no surprise, I've already heard a lot of things that were in there. The history of different fast food franchises was quite interesting, though.

The Well Dressed Ape was really, really good. It had a lot of really interesting scientific facts, which is the kind of thing I love.

I've currently got a hold on Swindled: The Dark History of Food Fraud, From Poisoned Candy to Counterfeit Coffee, by Bee Wilson.

Right now, though, I'm 5 issues behind in my New Yorker magazines, so I'm trying to catch up on those.

I've also got Sarah Vowell's The Wordy Shipmates on my Zune, and will get around to listening to it, one of these days. :) (The last book I listened to was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Quite good, but I liked his second book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, a bit better. I also listened to that one on my Zune.)

Oh, I also wanted to read Fast Food nation. I just put a hold on a similar kind of book at the library "The omnivore's dilema" by Michael Pollan.

That swindled book sounds interesting too. I think we have similar taste in books, lol.

Personally, I preferred The Omnivore's Dilemma over Fast Food Nation.

It does look like we have similar taste in books, I just got on my library's website and put a hold on God: The Failed Hypothesis.

:D

ETA: Is anyone here on Goodreads? I joined forever ago, but never added anything until tonight. I was racking my brain to remember things I've recently read and liked, so I signed on to start adding things. It's fun to see what your friends are reading, and plan to read.

at the moment it's 'Helen of Troy' by Bettany Hughes - for the nth time. couldnt decide what to read so thought i would reread an old favourite until something new caught my eye:D

I like Goodreads too. I like to read what other people think of the books I plan to read. I also have a LibraryThing.com account and have my entire library listed on there. There are some great websites for book nuts.

I'm currently reading Cokie Roberts "Ladies of LIberty". I just started. Good Reads comments list it between 2 and 4 stars so we'll see if I can get into it. I don't read much fiction but I also picked up "The Secret Scripture: a Novel" by Sebastian Barry.
