Cute little black and white Dutch. She was bornon Feb 12, 2005. We went and looked at bunnies and my daughter fell inlove with this one. Kept running back and telling me it was her bunny. So we got her. I made her a nice little cage. Now to figure out aname......

I have attached her picture. Any suggestions would be great. Im goingto let Caitlyn choose, but figure I can help some, since when I ask,she just says: I dont know, whats her name? hehe

And I wanted to ask about her food.....

Where we got her from gave us a mix they use of alfalfa pellets, oatsand dried apples. And grass hay. I wasnt real sure about it, and willchange her if needed. The apples bugged me the most, since I dont knowhow much of that she should be having if any????

She is a active little thing. While I was finishing her cage up, shewas in a box next to me. She was eating hay my daughter gave her andinstead of eating some pellets, she decided to fling the dish aroundthe box lol Thats why she has the baby rattle hehe

Dutch buns are my FAVORITE!! They AREso sweet and active. Mine love their rattles as well;) My male also loves his plasticslinky..."CLANK-CLANK-CLANK!!" So noisy :p

Mine love alfalfa hay. I've heard it is high in calories andshould be fed to them until they are six months or so. Thereis a ton of great info on the "Cheat Sheet For Rabbit Care" at the topof the forum.

Congrats Row, she's a cutie.....as for thefood...this is from the cheat sheet post at the top of thethreads..tons of good info and links in there!

-Pellet feed should have at least 18% or more of crude fiber. Colorfulrabbit food is more likely high in sugar and less in nutrients that arabbit needs.

Well, I imagine the pellets do. But I dont know. They are just plain alfalfa pellets. Im looking to see about the driedapples. I know they can have them, but I didnt think it was a goodevery day staple kind of thing????

Virginia

and thanks PGG :) and thanks for telling me bout this forum!

From what I have understood no on the apples allthe time...just an occasional treat...too high in sugar....Mine loveparsley! I've also seen alot of people on here give an occasionalraisin and craisins..haven't tried either yet!

And your welcome Row!! Glad to have you here! :D

She is so cute. My buns love theirtoys, especially my flemish. He throws them around all thetime. LOL

As for the food, make sure you are feeding a high quality alfalfapellet (check out the cheat sheet for exact values ofnutrients). Oats are high in fat and apples are high insugar, you need to limit the amount they get of those. Mybuns get oats 1 or 2 times a week (but I'm trying to put weight on someof them) and a small slice of fresh apple every couple ofdays.

To change foods, make sure you do it gradually...3/4 old food 1/4 newfor a couple of days, 1/2 1/2 for a couple of days.....and so on...

Ok, Ill pick up some other food and startswitching her. I have a lot of this stuff, so I can make the switchgradually. I didnt really think the apples were all that great, and Ifigured the oats might be too much. Ive read like a pinch of them perday if you wanted to feed them daily, not a good portion of what theyare eating. Ill try to pick through it and decrease the oats some.

Hi Rowena

Cute Dutch you have........It took me days and several name changes before we came up with Pebbles for our bunny.

Stay with the alfalfa pellets and alfalfa hay for your bunny untilshe's 6 months old. You could use the other foods you have astreats.

Here is the Cheat Sheet for Rabbit Care.........

Rainbows! :)

So pellets AND alfalfa hay? I got the grass haysince I wasnt sure if she should have a double dose of alfalfa, but ifso thats great, since thats what I feed my horses and I get really niceclean alfalfa for them. Ive read the cheat sheet, but need to gothrough it some more lol

Thanks :) It will probably take us some time for a name. Ill have totry to figure out some and let Caitlyn just pick one of them.

Alexandre lurves parsley, too. ^^ Try to feedyour bun atleast one serving of vegetables a day, a little parsley, cucumbers, celey etc. Whatever you want! ^^

Aww She's adorable. Congratulations. Howabout Skye as a name. It looks like she has blue eyes and it's obviousthe sky's the limit to getting what she wants. There is always Oreo,Pepper, Patches, Baby, Snuggles, Angel, Dolly, Pumpkin, Dazzle, and oneof my favorites Fedora means Gift from God.

Im going to town in the morning, and if she isold enough for some veggies, then she will get some! I found the listof whats good for them, and another thing I planned on giving was somenice dandelions. We have some growing in our yard and we never use anypesticides, and our neighbors dont either. I figured that would be agood treat for my daughter to feed her so they can bond some.

I love the name Skye! Ill have to ask Caitlyn what she thinks. Thebunny does have blue eyes, and I was wondering if that would change, but I guess not? I think they are pretty. I figured all bunnies hadbrown eyes I guess lol

Thanks everyone :)

*goes out to get some alfalfa*

Most people say no veggies until 12 wks, butthat's really not necessary. As long as she is eating hay,she can have veggies, just start off slow. Dandelions wouldbe a great start or pick a dark leafy green. I have 3 bunswho I've had since they were very young. Daisy, Orion andSaphywere about 6 wks when they were started on veggies andthey all did fine. (Daisy had been eating greens already andPam, who is very knowledgeable -- breeder and ARBA judge, said it wouldbe ok to start Orion and Saphy.) I started Sampson at 8 wks, when I got him, because he'd been eating grass and clover and thelike. I started them with romaine and a little mixed babygreens salad mix.

I got her some parsley and some basil. She didnttake the dandelion leaf lol I figure its going to take her some time toget used to new stuff :)

Here is a quick pic of my daughter and her. She just HAD to hold herthis morning. Im trying to give her a few days to settle, but mydaughter doesnt get that lol

Thank you :)

She is very proud. Soon as she got home from preschool she wanted tohold her bunny. I had her help me feed her this morning, we pickedthrough and got out just alfalfa pellets and I put a couple pinches ofthe oats lol She thought that was fun. We took the bunny to our spareempty room this afternoon and let her play a bit. Caitlyn thought itwas hysterical when she did some binkys lol
