It's already well into the day here, but it's the first chance I've had to surf the forum.

It's (late)lunchtime!!!
Chicken noodle soup with Ritz crackers, today....mmmm.:)

Our doggie, Lilah, got her hood off today. She was so happy that her whole body was wagging!! Her ear looks a lot better, but still has some healing to do.
MrsD gave the vet bill to the owners of the other dog. They weren't happy about how much it was. MrsD's answer: "Either pay us, or pay in court."

Chippy's still being a pain with trashing her cage. Now she's gotten into moving her litter pan and peeing behind it in the corner.:grumpy:
I've been giving her runtime every night in the hopes that it would help.....but no.
Most ofthe bites she gave me have healed, except for 3. I just can't believe she got me so many times. I'm a lot more careful for now.

Hey Jim, hey all. Doing well today. Only thing is, I have to go in for an ultrasound/non-stress test because my uterus is measuring small again. Another 2 hours in the hospital, gah!

Hope your bites have healed by now, Jim ;).

Sorry, Jim. It's been one of those da......... week............. YEARS!!!

Tell your neighbors that their bill is at least for something...... I just got a bill from my horse vet for Dakota.

$200 to tell me my horse was gassy

to give him a shot to help with that gassiness eventhough he was getting better

and to watch him take a big huge poo andpass a large amount of the gasright in front of the vet. BEFORE the shot.

Ice Storm hit us this afternoon. Schools let out 2 hours early.

Transformers are catching on fire; Power lines down everywhere; Cable Linesdown;Structure Fires; Tree Fires; Level 3 Emergancy (only emergancy personal to be on the roads); American Red Cross has set up a shelter as majority of the county is out of power.

Surrounding counties just have slushy ice or rain but nothing like what we have here. :?

I'm livid!:tantrum:

They sent us a check for part of the vet bills....$72 :grumpy:
Their reasoning was that Lilah should not have had to go back for a second vet visit.:?And that any follow up visits should have been free:?:?.

This all happened on the day we had a major snowstorm. The first vet we took her to was the only one in the area that was open. And he would only give her a shot of antibiotics. He was afraid to treat her further because she was so traumatized that she might bite him (or us for that matter). IMHO...I wasn't all that impressed with this vet.

When her ear wasn't healing and started to show signs of possible infection, we took her to our regular vet. He provided additional service and treatment (local anesthetic, shaving, cleaning, collar/hood, meds....and he didn't charge us for an office visit either) that would not have been included at no cost in a follow up to the first vet.

I should have taken her to the Emergency Animal Hospital. The bill would have been about $750.

I've been researching dog bite laws on the Internet since yesterday. The bottom line I keep finding is: The dog was loose = the owner is completely liable for any and all damages to person(s), property, or other animal (including domestics).

Sorry to hear of your delima!

Luckily, my area has only lost power for a few minutes at a time. The heart of the county remains out of power and some are expected to not get power back for at least 4 days.

American Red Cross has set up a shelter and people are using the shelter. It looks like I'll be pulling an all nighter and putting in some volunteer time.

I'm originaly from Detroit, and I remember those lake effect storms.......something I really don't miss too much.

I hope your power stays up and running. I'd be worried sick thinking about how I'd keep the bunnies warm.
I really need to talk MrsD into letting me buy a generator.

And kudos to you for helping out when it really counts to so many!!! :great:

Jim, you need to get a letter from the vets. They shouldn't have a problem with it.

Have the first vet say that they aren't rabbit savvy and that they recommended you take her to the next vet.

Have the next vet write a letter concerning what they did and that it was a good thing she got the shot from the first vet.

Send it to them (keep copies) with a note that says that with the law (state it with code and all) and with the support of the vets - the $72 might cover part of their court costs if you need to go that route.

DO NOT cash that check. Just hold onto it.

pssssst.....but Lilah's a doggie

:biggrin2:

Most advice I can find recommends NOT to try cleaning the wounds after a dog has been attacked. The biggest concern is that they are more prone to biting from being tramatized. Most suggested waiting a day until the dog has calmed down some.

Standard routine at the emergency hospital is to muzzle any animal being treated for an attack.

Well, still waiting to see if they are going to keepthe shelter up tonight. If they don't then I'm free to go.

But I got a phone call about an hour ago that may totally change the volunteering. I am currently employeed through an agent that gives you 'assignments' rather then jobs. Well, they called asking if I would work in the actual office starting for a few days tomorrow talking to recent employeers of the applicants and their additional references. But I may still split the night shift with the mother as she also works tomorrow.

I just feel gilty being one of the only towns in the countythat hasn't lost power for more then5 minutes. :?

The first vet would probably write a letter stating that he provided minimal treatment due to the mental trama invoked by the other dog.

The second vet is a sweetheart!!
He hasn't asked for any money and told us not to pay unless we collect from the other owner.
He told us that the antibiotics probably helped with the dozen or so puncture wounds all over her body, and helped keep the infection from progressing faster.

We're not going to cash the check.

We sent them a certified letter with all the required information outlining their responsibility as per state and municipal ordinances, a copy of the police report, more copies of the vet bills, and stated that if they choose not to pay, then they should provide us with their attorney's information and we'll have our attorney deal with it.
