Hello,
So my husband and I started our rabbit adventure with two rabbits. Who we believed were both girls. Turns out our precious little Penny was a boy and our little Pandora (or Pandi) was pregnant. Pandi had three beautiful little bunnies, Tigger, Piglet and Roo. Unfortunately we lost Tigger about a month ago. Piglet, a little girl, and Roo, a little boy are healthy and well. As of today they are nine weeks old. Last week when they were eight weeks old I caught Roo trying to mount his sister. So Roo was moved to his own cage. The Father, Penny is also in his own cage. While the mother, Pandora is sharing a cage with the little girl, Piglet. As far as I can tell Pandi hasn't been nursing them regularly since about 7 and 1/2 weeks. Today I've noticed that Pandi's teats are still full. I've tried to research online but have found nothing on what happens to the mom once the rabbits are weaning. Today I noticed that Piglet was trying to nurse, but her mother wouldn't allow her to. Is it normal for her teats to still be swollen and full? I know it's only been a week, I'm just a tad bit worried.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Are they hard and/or hot to the touch? If so, she may have mastitis. If not, then it's likely the baby is still nursing when you aren't seeing it. Mom is probably in the process of gradually weaning the baby, but a little bit of nursing may still be going on.

If you keep Piglet in with her mom, as she gets older you are going to want to keep checking to be sure of her sex, so that 'she' doesn't accidentally turn into 'he' and get mom pregnant. Until they mature, boys can sometimes be mistaken for girls. As you've learned :)

They are warm but not significantly warmer than the rest of her body. I'm guessing that Piglet is still probably nursing. Also, we had the rabbits' sexes identified by a vet. The vet is knowledgeable with rabbits. Yeah, after last time I wasn't taking a chance at guessing the sexes wrong.
