Hi i was planning on trying to get a giant bunny around september and was hoping to adopt one rather than get a baby. Any how on looking i came across a breeder living near me so checked with her and explained that i had been looking to get one in september etc. She said hers were going to be ready end of july but that they are ready now as are weaned eat and drink from bottle already and they are only a month old. They are quite expensive and i dont think they should go this early so am planning on not getting one of hers. Is this the right thing to do??????

Four weeks is far too early. don't touch this breeder or these buns with a bargepole.

If she is BRC registered then you should report her. If not, report her to the RSPCA.

It's illegal to sell rabbits under the age of 8 weeks, but the bigger the breed the longer they should stay with mum.

Yes i thought that too i was expecting the 8 weeks and hopefully more but was really shocked when she said they were already weaned. I wont be getting one and have decided i should stick with my plan of trying to adopt one that is older and not go for a baby again. Thanks for that i will try to find out if she is registered.

We have a beautiful giant at RSPCA Ipswich at the moment. He's called Dumbo and is a right love bun. He's pretty big but I still think he has some growing left to do.

Come September it might be worth you checking out Rabbit Rehome because that has all sorts of useful resources for rescuing in the UK.

Arrrr thank you flashy that is really helpfull. xx I will do that. Arr there any pics of dumbo??? He sounds lovely is he neutered? Where is ipswitch from me i am in oxfordshire xx

There's a pic of Dumbo on that link up there. I think its the first picture? He's a real love. He was reserved but has gone back up for adoption again because they can't accommodate his huge size. He's more lkike a puppy though. Follows you around.

Maybe use the AA routeplanner or google maps to try and work out the difference.

If you wanted him you would have to have a home visit from the RSPCA branch near you but I would be happy to send you all the info I normally give to adopters here. Also, it would be one heck of a trip for you to come all the way here so I would be willing to transport him some way towards you.

If you are genuinely interested, or think you may be interested come September then I'm more than happy to tell you what we look for at home visits and talk you through the procedures.

Oh he is lovely isnt he? my plan is to have a giant bunny as a house rabbit free roaming if i am able to adequately train him. I currently have peppa and georgie who are spayed female house rabbits who also have an nic condo which they go in at night or when i am out. At other times they run free in the house and garden weather permitting x I want the giant bunny to be really big and a total house pet, we do have five cats though but they are all bunny friends xx What do you have to do to be ok as an adopter? How much do you need to donate etc. and if you wanted to go ahead etc are there time limits and things? Did you say if Dumbo was neutrered or litter trained etc?

Karen, I think you should get Dumbo, he's ADORABLE.:happyrabbit::bunny18:rabbithop:running bunny I love the name too.

I've spent a lot of today with Dumbo. He's a right case.

PM me if you're interested and maybe we can have a chat. I don't think the rescue have ever rehomed so far away, to be honest, so that might be the first hurdle.
