Meet Mackenzie.

Picture001.jpg

She is a 6-year old rat terrier. She was a surrender to the APL because her owner had cancer and couldn't care for her anymore. We weren't looking for a dog, but I was on Petfinder the other day and came across her picture and fell in love. Here is her info from Petfinder: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11383268.

I'm going to get some better pictures tomorrow once she's more settled, but I thought I'd share the happy news. I can't believe she's so tiny - I thought she was going to be as big as my toy fox terrier (20-lbs. named Madeline), but she's only a hair over 10-lbs. We were afraid about how she'd do with our other dogs, but she's done great so far. We're ready though if she starts acting up or if our dogs start misbehaving, but we're hoping for the best.

But enough of that - isn't she cute?!

Really? That's the same dog in the petfinder? The picture in the petfinder one looks blind and is white overtop of both eyes:shock:.

What a CUTIE! Ryan's sister lives in Wisconsin and has a 7 year old RT named, "Sammy"...he is really awesome. My mom has a wire fox terrier, too :p.

Ohh, Spring....looks like the same dog to me. It looks like the flash made her eyes look blind and if you look at the black pattern on her head and the little black spot above her eye...you can see it....the brown just got washed out from the flash ;).

Ohh, yeah! Startled me for a second, since looked like two totally different dogs, thought the petfinder pic doggy was blind in both eyes!

I can't even get the petfinder picture or listing to come up - it says its been removed.....that was fast!

Thanks. She really is a cute girl and has made the transition fairly easy for all of us.

Spring, it is the same dog. She was adopted yesterday so it doesn't surprise me that her Petfinder ad has been removed - but that is her picture from the ad. I'll try to get some better pics of her today so that you can see. The black spot on her hiney matches the one in the picture. And I agree that the tan must've been washed out from the flash. But, yes, the same girl. She was previously named Lady, but I like Mackenzie better so we've formally named her that.

She's settling in nicely. She's definitely a handful, but in a good way. I'm sure I'll have tons of stories to share in the coming days.

I'm going to go try and get some good pictures of her now that she's laying down chewing her bone. Stay tuned for some Mackenzie cuteness.

More pictures of Mackenzie! I just took them with the digital cameral as opposed to my cell phone which doesn't have a flash. Enjoy!

See?! With the actual camera with a flash it does look like the same dog ;).

If two of my bunnies were recentlymauled to deathby a dog I wouldnt want to bring another into my home :(Arent you worried about that?

Especially since ratterriers were originally bred to hunt small game like squirrels and rabbits :?

I have to agree with Haley on this one nice dog but not around rabbits they look like what we call a Jack Russell over here. my brother used to have one and they are rabbiters.

Also I had a rabbit attacked by a Jack RUssell quite a few years ago now but it got into my garden Luckily the woman who's dog it was payed all my vet fee's and boy it was a big bill!!

Yeah, alot of people mistake them for Jack Russel Terriers, but they're different breeds- Let's hope she doesn't have the drive to be a hunter. She sure is a cutie.

We already have three dogs - a toy fox terrier (which is very similar to a rat terrier), a lab x pointer mix, and a shepherd mix. The dog that attacked my bunnies was not my dog (it was my then boyfriend's dog)and since my dogs are always supervised around my rabbits, I'm not concerned. They are only in the same room during the night and none of my dogs (including the new one) are able to get into that room or into the upstairs area where my bunnies have free roam time. It is separated by a baby gate in front of the steps and another door which is always closed.

Thanks for the concern, but we've considered all of this prior to welcoming the new dog into our home. My toy fox terrier was bred to hunt vermin as well and she would never hurt a fly. Not all dogs that are hunters are going to hunt if trained and socialized properly. And since we're cautious and will always provide supervision, it is completely safe. Not all pit bulls will attack and bite and not all terriers will hunt.

Again, I appreciate the concern, but I can't help but feel "attacked" here. I understand why and respect all of you and your opinions, but it still makes me feel badly. No matter what, though, I love my animals and would not purposely place any of them in harm's way.

On a side note, Mackenzie had her first check-up with the vet today. She's healthy and got her lepto vaccination and we got her Revolution as well for fleas, ticks, and heartworm. She did well and is making herself right at home. Right now my two girls are curled up right next to one another - so cute. They're all such good boys and girls.

I love my little family...:D.

I can understand the concern too - but I realize that was not your dog Alexah and I know as long as you take the right percautions you'll be alright. I've had a lot of dogs come into my rescue (when I was rescuing) all different personalities. It's not a bad thing to bring a new dog into your home, it would just be a bad thing to not keep the rabbits safe. I don't think you will put them in harms way.

Congrats - she is really cute and I'm glad you've given her a good home.

I don't think anyone was attacking you, they are just rabbit lovers and like your buns so were concerned.

I'm not much of a dog person but she looks really sweet! I like her pink harness :D. Are you coping ok with so many animals? What does your flatmate think of the new dog?

Michelle
