The cottontails we're rehabbing have been stll hanging in there, doing ok. One more died last night which was really really sad. Anyway, today I came up with giving them a dish of water in addition to their formula which I hadnn't even thought of :confused2: They all drank sooo much today of the water and started eating soo much more of the Orchard grass hay. I think they were all getting pretty dehydrated and that's maybe what was killing them (they were all starting to get pretty sluggish, too).
Tonight I began to notice pretty watery cecotrophs. Their normal poops look pretty good-the usual. Is it bad that the cecals look so watery or is it just maybe from drinking tons of water each??? Maybe the hay somehow bothered them? but then I wouldn't think the normal poop would look fine.. :?
They didn't eat as well tonight but I'm attributing that to the water and extra hay as they are soo much perkier and bouncy and full of energy. I'm thinking they just don't feel so hungry for the fomula after nibbling hay all afternoon and lots of water.
