So previously I've posted topics in the infirmary about my holland lop buck Ripley and hae a wet chin. I didn't take him to the vet for it, and it turns out in just the last couple days, I think I found the cause-his water bottle. I've been watching him more closely and keep seeing him rub his chin all over the water bottle (and turning into a little baldie on his chin :p ).
So that's what I'm thinking is causing it, but should I just switch him over to some sort of a dish/crock? Knowing him, he'll try to dump it somehow or get in it but I don't want him to always have a wet chin either.

I'm still hoping to get him neutered coming up pretty soon but we still have to check around about prices. After that he would probably quick rubbing his chin so much right?

So glad to figured it out. Good job. He seems to be marking his water bottle due to territorial or "claiming" it.

I would try the water crock until you get him neutered. I know it will be a mess if he's going to knock it over all the time, but it's better than a wet chin and a bald spot.

I think once he's neutered, he won't feel he needs to "claim" as much. I see that with Dobby and Kreacher. They used to "chin mark" everything, but now just "chin mark" my husband's slippers each morning.

K:)

Hmm well i would have said it was marking territory but that seems kind of excesive for marking territory.

he could have flees under his chin and is trying to itch it i would get the vet to take a look at that

I would put a water dish in and see how that goes if he does knock it over then i would but the water bottle back in

Yeah I'm thinking I might as well try the dish because it'll also help me see if it truley is just wet/getting a bald spot from his bottle and nothing else.

I see what you're saying about flees-hadn't thought of that-although he would be the kind of bunny to excessivly rub his chin. He's a crazy lil' man I tell you. :brat: (←that's Ripley)

Tryed a heavy crock this morning to give him as a water dish. I already took it back out and went back to his water bottle because he was dipping the whole bottom of his face in the dish, ending up with a wet chin AND nose.

LOLLLLLLL :biggrin2:

What a silly little goof! But yes, chinning means 'mine mine mine!' and he probably does it to many many things. He seems to particularly enjoy water though. Lol. Perhaps you can use those bowls that attach to the cage and raise it off the floor so it'll be accessible to drink, but harder to dump his face in?

yeah, that's a good idea-I'll have to get one of those..or just get him neutered. We're going to the vet for him this morning I think so I can ask about neutering him while I'm there.
