I want to tell you guys something, but before I do, I want to say this: Some of you may remember when I was going to get a rabbit, but our funds weren't right, and we didn't. Please know that I took EVERYTHING you guys said into consideration!
Well, we restored our funds for the bunnies, and we did get another one just a little while ago. :) I just wanted to tell you that things are back to normal, Taz is totally fine, and we felt we were fine to take in another bun. She's a young female named Ruby, and she's a sweetheart :)
Thank you for not judging; I thought after the thread about getting another rabbit things wouldn't be good if I said i got a bun, but now I know you guys won't do that!

That's great Christina!! Is she going to be Taz's new buddy? Have they met? You'll need to post pictures :)

Thanks so so much Jenny! She may be Taz's new buddy, and they have met, and were good (even though both are young and unsprayed) but then Taz started becoming a little dominate. There was no biting though, so that's good :) I'll definitely post pictures!
Question: can 2 females, if they are bonded very young, remain bonded AND unspayed?
Thanks, and pictures are coming! :) :)

Congrats on the new bun! Im glad you now have funds to take the bunnies to the vet if need be.

You've asked about unspayed females bonding before and you keep getting the same answers. Unaltered buns are at risk for fights. Of course you will get scenarios, Jbun will be the first to say, where unspayed females can bond. There are exceptions to every rule. You can try but my opinion is that spontaneous fighting and risks for a bond to all of a sudden fall apart is very high. With that being said, unless a bond between unaltered buns happens by "accident" I would never encourage anyone to try it nor would I ever try myself. Fights between rabbits are viscous, scary AND most often happen in early morning hours or late hours when humans are in bed and not around to break it up.

Btw, why won't you get Taz and Ruby spayed? Since funds are no longer an issue I think it would be a good choice....
But yes, post pics when you can!

Thanks Lisa. I wasn't saying I WON'T spay them, i was just curious, and i think it's always good to have different opinions. I am going to have them separated all the time because of the divider in their cage, so I don't think it will be a problem :)

That's so awesome! Post pics. And give the backstory, like what breed she is, color, parents, where you got her, how you got her, etc. I think you can bond unspayed does; I had 2 MR does bonded from a young age and one was depressed for months after the other passed away.

Hm, thats really cool about the two bonded females Kat :)

I'll post a pic of her as a baby, before i got her, and one of her now...
She's a Nethie, although, to me, she doesn't look like one. She's like a hotot but with black ears and 2 little black dots on her back and one on her belly :) I got her from a nice lady named Allie who lived a little while from me, so she was nice, and met me half way.
Taz did a little humping (that sounds weird :p ) like, claiming dominance over Ruby. They chased each other a little, but then I intervened. Should I put them together again? I supervised them together by letting them both out of their cages and letting them hop around. Their permanent cage is being built (NIC) and it will have a divider.
Thanks for all the replies, and picture is coming soon!

Here is Ruby when she was really little, before i got her:

And here she is now:

I am going to be taking a lot more pics of her, so more will come, this is just to start :) Does she look like a Nethie? I don't have experience with them so I have been researching!

She's very cute!!! I'm not sure on breed. She could be nethie or part hotot, though she doesn't have the typical body type for them.

I think it would be a good idea to not really put them together, at least for a little while. I would either put them in a divided cage or in cages right next to each other. This will give them a chance to get to know each other without any chasing or humping, and also a chance for your new bun to settle in to her new home and feel safe. It might be possible for them to get along without being spayed, but that depends alot on their personalities. Getting them both spayed would be the best thing to do if you can, but even that won't guarantee that they'll bond, it just increases the chances for them to bond and decreases the chances of them fighting. But their personalities make a big difference in how things will be able to work out.

If your buns seem to get along through the bars of their cages, you can even put their cages close enough that they can lick each other through the bars. You just want to give them both a chance to feel comfortable with each other without them being together. If they try and groom each other through the bars or lay down near the same area thtough their cages, it's a good sign that they may like each other and be able to get along. When you try to let them have time together, before or after a spay, you always need to be ready to break up a fight. It would be best if you had an adult around to help in case something does happen. You need thick gloves, a broom, blanket, or something that will help you separate them quickly.

I hope things work out with them. It's nice when your rabbit is able to have a buddy.

Thanks Larry and Jenny! She really doesn't look like a Nethie to me, but who know :p

They both have kind of shy personalities, but yet they're both friendly to me, and love to see me because I'm their primary caretaker. I'm looking into how much spays cost in my area, but of course, it would be great if they could get along without it.
I supervise them when they're out of their cages together; should I introduce them again?

It is certainly possible to have two unspayed females bonded, but in the interest of their health I would have them spayed.
My two boys came into the shelter together as unneutered males and were caged together until and after their neuters.

Right, I think they would do well unspayed together, but because of the cancer females can get, it would be best to have them spayed.

I've discovered that, now that Ruby has warmed up to me more, she ALWAYS wants to come out of her cage!! I read somewhere that that was a common trait of hotot rabbits. When I was feeding her, she got behind me and jumped right out of her cage! :)

Honestly, I think this is a rabbit things, not so much justa Hotot thing. It seems like whenever any of them get comfortable they take any chance to get out and socialise. :)

Yeah, I know it's a rabbit thing, but I've just heard that hotots have a tendency to do that more so than other rabbits ;)
