I've been waiting for someone else to start this topic -but since no one has...here goes.

What did y'all think of the VP debate?

I was listening to the radio today in the store while I was working and one man was hosting a call-in show (local I think) where people were talking about it. The host stated that he is Democrat - has voted Democrat all his life and will vote the Democrat ticket in this election - BUT - that he was impressed with Governor Palin's performance and thought that she came across as more knowledgeable than he thought she was. I thought that was very interesting.....and I also thought it was great that he was saying, 'Today is the last day to register to vote - so no matter WHAT party you want to vote for - make sure you're registered before 4:30 pm today when they close downtown..".

Honestly? I liked the VP debate a lot. I think I liked it first than the first Presidential debate. I enjoyed the SNL version of it also....I've never watched any SNL before this election - now it seems like I keep going to Hulu.com to see their political stuff every week.

I thought that both Senator Biden and Governor Palin did very well. Senator Biden made some points I thought were interesting - and Governor Palin said some things I liked too.

I thought it was interesting (you won't hear about it in mainstream media I'm sure) that Senator Biden invited folks to come down to this restaurant and talk to him....I forget the name of the restaurant...but the funny thing is....it hasn't been open for like 15 years or so? I don't know - that just struck me as funny.

The sad thing is - in both this debate -and the earlier debate between Senator Obama and Senator McCain....there was so much stuff that later was disproven. I hate that - I want to listen to the debate and hear the truth from BOTH sides...(including my side - which is just as bad as the other side).

So.....enough of my book - what did y'all think?

Didn't get to watch your VP debate, as our ROWDY Canadian debate was on (at the exact same time :( ) Heard your debates were far more polite...

That is so true... I was listening to reactions about our debate up here on the raio, and one caller made the very good point that there should be a panel of people working behind the scenes to prove each and every point that the debators make. At the end of every topic, the moderator should give out the list of who was lying, and what the lie was.

That would make it a lot easier to follow, because I don't like wasting my night listening to politicians BS eachother.

Palindid better than I expected, but she was in very intense training for the week beforehand. It showed in that she knew names and some voting issues but she didn't stay on topic. She kept veering off into the same things. She sounded rehearsed. Before she didn't even know what they meant by Maverick - and then she used the term so much I wanted to puke. LOL! Plus, that's the last thing I'd called McCain myself.

She made a mistake or two on names, but Biden did as well. My comment to my son (which did suprise me even!) is that if she gets some more experience and knowledge, I think she could do this in 8 years - maybe on the Pres. ticket. HOWEVER, I don't like her *down home* talking - we've had enough of Bush with that and I think it makes her sound stupid.

I was very impressed with Biden - which says a lot since I wanted Evan Bayh in that spot. Infact, he's what probably solidified my voting democratic this time. He understands the government and has the experience.

All in all, I wish Bill Clinton could come back! It's funny cause I was so mad at him for his b/s in office but when all is said and done - he balanced our budget and had us in a much better place!! That's why I wanted Hillary in office - she would have had his backing and help. Now, I fully expect they will help Obama if they get the opportunity...... and we need that. We need a team that CAN and will get things done to get this country back on track. I'm voting DEMOCRATIC because I want tthat TEAM....... not necessarily the people on the ticket.

I still think McCain is a nice guy but he's out of touch with today's government and issues.

:yeahthat:I agree with Pennie.

I really hate the "folksy" way Sarah Palin speaks. It seems almost condescending instead of "I'm one of you". It's like she's trying too hard to be just a regular gal. Biden annoyed me too, but not as much. I LOVED the Saturday Night Live Debate!:biggrin2:

Tonight should be interesting.

I'm anxious to see the debate tonight as well.

I have GOT to watch the SNL skit. My son has been driving me crazy about it!

Tina Fey is just hilarious. I love her!

Well, I really like Palin, so I was a little biased, LOL, but I do agree that she does come across as really trying to hard with the "one of us" thing. You could definatly see that she was nervous, especially with one or two of the topics, like the gay marriage one. Not that I blame her, that is a pretty touchy topic for a lot of people. I thought it was cool that she came out and said she is against redifining the definition of marriage, that had to take some guts, it's not exactly the "politically correct" thing to say.

I could appreciate her stance on that.

Meet the Press had on the moderator and some of the news people with Tom Brokaw (I sure wish Tim was still alive - he'd have loved this election year!).... and they were talking about how Palin "ignored" a question and the moderator said "no, she blew me off!" LOL

After having lived in Alaska for four years - I have to say - a lot of that is "just Alaskan". Honest.

One of the times I voted Democrat...was because a Democrat candidate called us up. I explained we voted Republican. He said, "Can I ask you some questions anyway to hear your input....and may I send you some materials?"

Mind you - this is in downtown Anchorage - not small town Wasilla or something like that.

Yeah - we talked for maybe 30-45 minutes...he sent me some materials and I read them.

I disagreed with him on a few things...but I liked him enough that he got my vote.

So when I hear Sarah Palin speak (other than her voice which irritates me - oh wait - that's Tina Fey's impersonation that irritates me...I get the two mixed up... :biggrin2: ) - I just think, "That's Alaskan".

Art tends to say that too - in fact - he heard bits and pieces of the debate and said she made him think of Alaska cause of the way she talks.

Just my .02 based on having lived there!

Awesome! I was wanting to talk to someone from Alaska to see what they think of her. I didn't know you had lived in Alaska, Peg, I bet that was a lot different from TX! Is there anyone here that lived in Alaska while she was governor?

Gentle Giants- Tundrakatiebean and I both live in Alaska right now :) I've lived here for 3 years and I think she's lived here about the same amount of time. My boyfriend was born and raised here, but it's kind of hard to get a feel for what Alaskans think of her just by talking to one or two people.

Very true. However, would you mind giving me your personal opinion? I promise not to take it as any more than that. :)

I also wanted to point out that while we lived in Alaska - we only lived there for four years and the majority of our "interaction" was with military and older people (our age) - although we did interact w/ folks at church too....

So my thoughts are really limited because they are based upon the experiences I had - which will be far different than SnowyShiloh's (and TundraKatie if she comes into the discussion).

I also cannot stand the way Palin speaks. Beyond her annoying voice, all the "folksy" little sayings are just awful. I agree that it makes her sound condescending, that she's just playing a role. I don't want to elect someone whe's pretending to be just a regular guy or gal. I want someone smart and sophisticated, who can make sense out of the mess this country is in, and fix it.
Oh, I also disagree with Palin on just about everything, so I may be biased.

I think that part of what I dislike about her talking that way is I keep picturing her talking to some big official of another country and it seems like it would be such a joke! It also does seem fake but if it's not..... how awful!

I can't imagine her as president if the need arises. I mean, Bush and his Bushisms are bad enough!

One of the reasons I got so mad at Bill Clinton was that he embarrassed us as a country with his escapades..... granted - the country's finances were awesome with him and I'd be happy to ignore his indiscretion at this point! LOL!
