I noticed this problem the day I adopted bunbuns. He is a picky veggie eater and I an afraid he isn't getting enough greens. He loves his pellets but I limit home to less than half a cup a day and of course all the fresh hay he can eat. But dinner is a struggle. last night he only ate the Boston red lettuce out of his salad and left the zucchini, squash and red pepper alone. he really didn't even want the green part of the lettuce just the purple/red top. I have also tried green beans and carrot. hates them. he loves fruit but I limit that and he loves dandilions and sweet clover but I live in buffalo and the snow will start soon. should I be worried. he as his first vet check up Monday. also...how much hay should he be eating per day? He picks at it AMD I'm wondering if maybe he doesn't like that either.

If he doesnt eat veggies thats fine, hes a picky eater, youll find what veggies he does like. Limit the pellets to _____ per day, and continue to offer unlimited hay with some veggies to choose from. Pellets are designed to be a complete diet. So if you limit those just keep encouraging the veggie and hay eating. Make hay toys make eating it fun.

How old is he and how much does he weigh? If he's the dutch in your avatar, I fed my dutch 1/4 cup of pellets a day.
I think you might be offering too many "vegetables" and not enough greens. In my experience, my rabbits won't go near things like squash and green beans but they love things like parsley, basil, cilantro and romaine lettuce. It may take a lot of sampling before you find out what he really likes.

My girls really like cilantro, turnip greens, collards and parsely. Cilantro is quicky becomming an every day veggie. It is CHEEP!!!! I got 3 bunches for under $0.90 total yesterday. Beauty is my picky eater. Yesterday I gave them red leaf lettuce and green leaf lettuce for the first time and Beauty has not touched them yet. Give it some more time with your rabbit. I used to not feed any of my rabbits veggies at all. They only got limited pellits, and hay every couple of days. They were fine on that diet.

So happy! I gave kale a shot and parsley. And he loved them! Never seen him so happy at dinner. :) thanks for the advise! And where are you getting cilantro for .90 cents?! It was 2.00 a bunch at the store but a big bunch of kale was a dollar. :)

I'm glad they were such a hit. Remember not to introduce too many new veggies at a time so you can see if something causes GI upset.

My bun will eat a tiny bit of squash, but she doesn't eat green beans. Her favorite greens are: kale, cilantro, parsley, romaine, and mustard greens. She loves carrots and their tops. Her favorite fruits are: bananas, grapes and only golden delicious apples. But she rarely gets fruit, just a grape every now and then and little bit of my sons banana when hes eating one for lunch. I don't measure her pellets out, because she doesn't over eat them. She has all the hay she wants and eats hay all the time.
Maybe you just don't notice how much hay your bun eats, some days my bun doesn't eat a lot of hay, but some days she goes nuts eating it.
You'll find stuff that your bun likes, sometimes it just takes a little while to see. Its all trial and error. Good luck:)
