Is there a daily max for vegetables? Cost isn't a concern in Charlie's food budget, so I've been giving him as much as he wants. Where should I cap the vegetables?

He still should be eating some pellets & plenty of hay. His poops shouldn't get soft & he shouldn't be gaining weight. And he shouldn't get much of the 'sometimes' veggies either.

Thanks! I'd really love some more input on this topic as people only comment on a minimum it seems like!

I used to feed my bun a max of 6 cups of leafy greens per day. There is another measurement for non leafy greens, i just can remember because i don't usually feed non leafy's. They say 2 cups per 5 lbs of rabbit, or the veggie mound as large as the rabbit. Since Charlie is still a baby, for me, hay is most important. You want a good hay eater as a baby and an adult. So i would keep his veggies to the 2 cups per 5 lb model. That's me personally though.

Hay keeps their digestive tracks going and wears their teeth down. Its indigestable fiber that pushes everything through and helps prevent blockages. Hay should be like 80% of their daily diet.

Greens are great, they add variety, moisture and vitamins.

yeah, the fiber in hay should be the primary part of a rabbit's diet... there's no real need to limit the total amount of leafy green veggies (though ofc limit specific ones that are supposed to be limited due to OA content) as long as the rabbit's munching on hay for much of the day. if they're filling up on veggies all the time, though, you need to cut back. a rabbit should eat a *minimum* of a pile of hay the same volume as their own body per day.

Thank you for all this feed back! This is so interesting :D

This is good info as I am on my way to Walmart to get his some veggies and I never know how much or what I should try next. I am trying to stay away from too much calcium

I find that with mine, if I give them any veggies then they do not eat hay. Neither one eats a big amount. Shiny Things will eat about 3-4 cups of hay every 2 days if I am lucky. Beauty will only eat a couple of bites of binky bunny oat hay a day. I try to give her 1 handful a day. One good days she will eat all that. Most days she will not even eat that much. I also try to limit pellets to encourage more hay intake. Instead of eating hay they just do not eat and are getting skinny because of it (I have uped the pellets to compensate for skinny bunns). When I do give veggies, I give about 2 cups per bunny (1-3 leaves of romain, 1/4 bunch cilantro, and 1-2 leaves of some other veggie).

I used to feed her one cup of greens a day and noticed it upset her tummy. Some buns are more sensative than others. I took it out of her diet and will only give her scraps if im cooking a green she can eat. Now greens and veg are just a treat. She does love it though.
