I live in a somewhat sketchy part of town, and kids with nothing else better to do tend to walk the streets at night, and the result can sometimes be vandalism. I experienced that last night. My car's passenger window was bashed in. Nothing was taken. It was either a would-be thief who determined I had nothing to steal, or a random act of vandalism. Either way, it's irritating, scary, and depressing.

that sucks and is really scary!

i think i am very lucky to live in a town with low crime rate.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Gordon :(
That is a lousy thing to do to someone. Very uncool. Glad nothing was stolen.. will insurance cover it?

I know that some people just choose to leave their car unlocked, and take the battery inside.

Hugs to you. Karma is one nasty lady to tangle with... it'll get them in the end.

I don't think I would go to the extent of leaving my car unlocked, and taking the battery inside everyday... lol... that's a little extreme, and things aren't that bad here... yet... lol.

The police and some others have told me that any auto glass that is damaged is replaceable for free by law. I thought it was only windshield glass. I'll get with my insurance company and let you all know what I find out.

oh how aggravating, when i was living in the city december 23 someone went around the neighborhood breaking peoples windown, hit nearly 50-60 cars!!!!!!! of course it was my minivan and they did two windows on it!!!!!!! Who needs that kind of crap right before christmas!!!! I dont see it, i was a kid once what is so fun or cool about destroying peoples property? people use their hard earned money for things and other people just dont care, very aggravating. I now live in the country , and it isnt absent of crime and vandalisim, but i have had rarely any incidents with property and vehicles. So sorry this happened to you

Before I moved to the countryside, we lived in a really rough part of town. Actually it was the worst neighbourhood in town. For example, I got a new bike and on one hot Summer's day I was cycling around the neighbourhood, went inside for literally two minutes to get a drink and my bike was gone.

One halloween we carved a pumpkin and put candles in it, we were all excited and thought it was great. Put it out on the porch and a half an hour later it was gone. We found it smashed and kicked around just around the corner. One Christmas our wreath was swipped off the door, and all our Christmas lights egged. Another time when I was about 7, my Mother let me walk to the shop by myself and a girl of about 12/13 grabbed me by the hair, slapped me across the face, and kicked me in the stomach a couple times. When my Dad was learning to drive his motor bike, some fellas in a car tried to knock him off.

Every Halloween, any cats and dogs they could get their hands on were thrown in bonfires and kittens tied to fireworks.

We lived in total fear and we could only go out to play if some of the decent kids that were our friends were out too and we were in a large group. So glad we moved to the countryside with decent people around us and we don't have to be careful when we are out and about and can leave things in our garden without it being stolen!

Bad homes tend to produce bad kids, and they don't have the values, plus, they're probably all on drugs. I'm upset about it, but it's just something I have to deal with. --I chose to live where I do.

I can understand; things aren't that bad here, in my neighborhood, but I definitely worry about stuff.

Before I moved to the suburbs I lived in an estate very similar to the one Grace discribes. We had a camper van parked outside our house that was reguularily scratched and battered with stones at night. The kids used to be terrorized and verbally abused and their property stolen if they left it unattended for a second. We used to have regular stones against the windows and eggs occasionally.
Unfortunately our house is still there and we are trying to sell it but nobody wants to buy (quite understandibly) I can sort of live with random vandalism as annoying as it is but when you know the people vandalizing your property are next door neighbours it's rather frightening.

I am sorry to hear that your car was vandalized, its good to know nothing was taken but, these things shouldn't be happening in the first place.
It's not so much vandalism where I live but, more a pub that causes a lot of trouble, just last friday night something cracked off there, leading to lots of drunk people shouting, a brawl on the green outside our house and the cops turning for the 2cd time in just a few weeks at the pub.
You shouldn't have to have this kind of stress and worry in your own home environment, it's ment to be a place where you feel safe, I only hope that your car or anything else of your posession is left alone and that the person who did it like Northern Autumn said, will get what they deserve in good time.

I'm sorry to hear about this, Gordon.

The year before last, my husband's car was stolen right out of our apartment parking lot. It was really scary and frustrating. I was happy to move to a slightly better part of town.

Gosh Gordon, sorry to hear about that.

I have been pretty lucky,i have never had any problems like that (touch wood)

I really dislike people like that though...that have nothing better to do with their time

I don't think my situation now is the result of immediate neighbors, but a few years ago I did have some really rotten kids/parents living two doors down from me.

Thank you. :) I have had a lot of stress over the last year or so, with a windstorm that knocked my power out for over a week in September of 2008, and then an ice storm that cut my power for over a week in January, this year, and then a rainstorm that flooded my basement in August. This was just icing on the cake. :p

I'm frustrated, but Peter and Bugs are fine. I was super worried about them when I lost power both in late summer last year(no air-conditioning), and early this year(no heat), but they were fine. I think my poor rabbits are far more resilient to stress than their poor daddy is, lol.

The same thing happened to my dad, he found a shoe and bottle inside his car. All the windows were broke, but insurance covered it.
Hope it gets fixed soon, and your not too shook up.
