My rabbit is having trouble litter training. I am planning on getting her spayed because I've read several threads saying that it helps. But in the meantime, what can I use to clean urine? I don't know how but she even gets it up on the walls of her hutch as if she's got a squirt gun or something :yuck.

What can I spray on the wood of the hutch to get rid of the smell, and what can I use to clean everything else? I have been using a product for cats, but rabbit urine is so different. I have not seen any kind of rabbit cleaner at pet stores.

Try using a mixture of water and white vinegar...or straight vinegar...spray on and wipe clean.

We heat ours up a bit and let it sit to soak on the harder to remove spots!
Just remember to rinse so bunn doesn't get any on her feet!

If your rabbit pees everywhere (not in specific corners, but all over the floor), this could be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection. Just keep an eye on her- is she straining to pee at all? Is she drinking lots and peeing lots? Does she seem herself? Eating, active etc?

And yes, spaying should really help ;)

She does have a couple specific pee spots but she also goes everywhere else. She doesn't seem to be straining or acting different. She's still active and eating.

Hmm....that really does seem to suggest a UTI- the going everywhere. Rabbits have specific spots. They may not be litter trained, and may not just pick one 'spot', but shouldn't just go everywhere.

I think to be on the safe side, I would take her to the vets and get her checked.

She will be going to the vet soon to be spayed so I'll have them check that too. Thanks both of you for your replies and jcotton, you answered all my posts! Thanks! I'm sure I'll come up with more :D. She's my first rabbit.

:) no problem at all.
Yeah- def get it looked at soon. She's a year old, so you don't have to wait long to get her spayed, so get them to check that too. In the meantime, keep a careful eye on her and her litterbox habits.

I look forward to hearing loads more about your bun. Have you thought of starting a blog? Great way to show her off ;).

That's brilliant!! Well now that it isn't a UTI, and she is spayed, litter-training will be a lot easier. You may even find that she basically litter-trains herself!! :p.

If not, then just using the techniques about soaking up urine and placing into her litter tray, and poops too, should do the trick ;)

It does take awhile. :) I think Pipp's ridiculously bad litter habits cleared up two months after the spay. And it just took new arrivals Mikel and Zack about three months to stop marking everywhere.

Do you have other rabbits or pets? Rabbits mark their territory, so if they're smelling other pets, they maybe marking their boundaries by peeing over their scent.

Just remember that vinegar is your best friend!

Well thanks that's a good word of encouragement. Yes I have a zoo here but only one rabbit. She actually humped one of my cats before lol. That was the last time Maxine jumped in the play pen with her lol.
