Are URI's in guniea pigs transferable to rabbits?

I have a friend coming over who's having severe problems with URIs in her caviary, and I don't know a thing about them... Do I need to get her a change of clothes, plus a good scrub down before she comes in contact with the rabbits?

I don't know what causes URI's (which I probably should...), but if it's spread through her herd... I don't need something getting into and recking mine right now.

Wow I really thought someone else would answer this. BTW I have a siamese sable kit that I wish I could send you :)

I am not sure if URI can be transferred from guinea pigs to rabbits, It would completely depend on whether it was bacterial and what kind of bacteria or whatever else. I would not take any chances. If she has been holding and handling her cavies with the same outfit as she is coming over with then I would get her a change of clothes, and regardless have her thoroughly wash her hands/arms before coming into contact with your rabbits.

I thought so too, at first, but I figured more people would know cavy info in the rabbitry section? idk.

Anywho. I did learn that cavies get URI's from people with colds. Which makes me believe it isn't transferable. In any case, all seems fine.
