Sorry everyone I know the info is here but I think I'm too frazzled to feasibly search for it. Last week I took in a "last years easter present" because the people got a new bun and didn't want her anymore :( Anyway She just kindled much to my suprise...even though a buck was not mentioned to me. One was DOA I tried reviving no luck one in nest box...one appeared "chewed" and oneI found alive on the floor. She only pulled a bit of fur and put it in her litterbox. I had the babies with her but she was undoubtely stomping them. (I know from breeding MANY years ago) I think she must be a first time mom...and she is such a sweet bun that I'm sure she's terrified. I set up a nest box in the house with hay and her bit of fur...both babies in the center and then a heating pad under half of the box. I plan to bring the babies for supervised feedings (once or twice?) a day. Any other advice or recommendations as to any further steps I should take? Oh and I do know that she is a flemish/NZ cross (BEW) and huge...do you think she is done or should I keep an eye out for more?

sounds like you are doing fine. I would say twice a day for supervised feedings for your peace of mind as well as for the babies.

I think you are right sounds like she is probably stressed out. If you feel she has't pulled enough fur i would try to pull some more form her tummy as it will help keep the babies warm and also help to expose her nipples as well.

Just remember to give mum unlimited pellets while she is feeding them

Deep breaths you are doing fine :)

Sounds like your doing great . I would definatelly keep an eye out for more you never know and since she's a larger breed usually means larger litter.

Flip her on her back and pull some extra fur from her belly between her back legs. The hormones thatcause the contractions also loosen her fur. You should be able to pull it out pretty easily. Just make sure there is enough to cover the babies.

Twice a day is fine. Early morning and after dusk (pm). Sounds like you are doing fine. Give her some time to adjust. Feedings should only take 5 minutes or less. You may have to put her on top of them and hold her still. Sometimes I just hold the moms head to make sure she isn't nipping or biting them. Petting and stroking her may help her relax while she is feeding.

Great...thanks so much for all the advice. When should they have their first feeding. She kindled at approximately 2 pm. Should I go ahead and give a feeding tonight or should I wait till morning? I was reading some posts and saw a formule recommended in the case that she won't nurse ( which I think we'll be able to do with her since she is so sweet) I couldn't find the same brand but I found a formula with almost the same protein and fat content. Protein 34% and fat 43%. The brand is Advance Puppy milk replacer powder. I also read to feed at half the value. So is this good back up in your opinion? I'm hoping after a while they'll be able to go in with her until they are weaned so they can get what they need from mom. *sigh*

You can try tonight if you want to, and if you think she'll be willing. Just put her on top of them for a few minutes. See if she relaxes and lets them nurse. If not, don't stress her, take the babies away and try again in the morning. Some does don't get their milk in until 12-24 hours after kindling. The babies are fine for the first day if necessary. Don't suppliment yet. Wait to see if she accepts them tomorrow.
