He just doesnt seem to want to be near me. I have only had him for 2 days. I was just wondering if there was some way that I could make him feel safe so that he wont want to run from me. Any treats that will draw him to me?

How old is your bunny?

It will take some time for your bunny to trust you. I know none of my bunnies come to me. You just have to gain trust to be able to go up to him/her to give pets. 2 of my buns still run from me when I try to pet them. The other 2 hunker down for me to pet, but don't run.

You can try sitting close and ignoring the bunny and see if he/she comes to you. You can try veggies if the bunny is old enough ,to see ifhe/she will come close to you for the veggies.

Good Luck. Can we get pic's,please? :)

I just seen your bunny is 7 weeks. So it can't have veggies. Just try sitting on the floor and let the bunny come to you. It may take a few times before he/ she comes up to you.

You can try to approach the bunny but hold your hand out for it to smell. And go slow. :biggrin2:

About the veggies, make sure to do any food changes/additions slowly, especially at this young age.

Do keep in mind that your rabbit is young and very new to your house. He's still getting used to everything. With new or scared rabbits of any age, I've found that the best way to get them comfortable with you is to allow them to hop in and out of their cage on their own for play time (if it's not possible, consider rearranging stuff so it is) and sit or lay on the floor with them. They feel more comfortable when humans are on their level. Try reading a book or a newspaper, especially one that the rabbit could nibble a little. Paper is tasty and the bun may be more comfortable if you're not starting directly at it the whole time.

I use their regular meals of veggies to train my rabbits to willingly go back into their cages/pens at the end of their play time.

Check out this site to learn more about bunny body language. If you've never had one before, you'll find that their body language is a lot different from a cat or dog.

Hey there!

I know exactly what you're feeling, I've had a Netherland Dwarf for 1 week now (he's 8 weeks old) and in the beginning he would run from my hands when i put them in the cage to pet him or pick him up. He still does when i try to pick him up, but when i pet him he'll just lower his head and not move while i pet him instead of running which is nice.

I started putting him on my bed while i watch TV, he'll run around, dart/bounce around now and even climb up onto my chest and smell my face etc, thats when i pet him (in which case he'll lower his head and not move), but its better than when i used to try the same thing and he'll run to the other side of the bed and come nowhere near me!

So just keep handling your bunny, talk to it, play with it as much as you can! (Its still early days for both of us but i've made good progress in a week so just be patient!).
