Reports have just come in from East Gate Veterinary practice in Suffolk of a confirmed death from VHD in the area of Bury St Edmunds with 3 unconfirmed deaths in the same area within the last 3 days.
This practice is concerned that the virus will take hold and spread rapidly. They are hoping that their local press will publish a warning to all rabbit owners to ensure that their rabbits vaccinations are up to date and have asked that the RWA/F also warn all rabbit owners.
VHD is a swift and efficient killer â almost all rabbits who catch VHD die within a day or two. The virus causes massive internal bleeding. Some rabbits bleed from the nose and back passage before death, others die so quickly that there may be no outward sign of disease at all.
