So I made up a batch of Critical Care for Gubble (UTI currently) and because I made up a bit too much I was spooning the leftovers into dishes for Matthias, Atts and a double dish for Molly & Gubbs.

I went downstairs and Molly is in the crate they use as a house, where she's been most of the day digging (but that isn't unusual). I dropped down, lifted the blanket to peek in and offer her some CC on my finger and she's pulled out a bunch of dewlap fur and made a nest.

I double checked my blog: Gubble was neutered 4/7. She and Gubble didn't meet in person till 4/15. That's only 12 days into a 31ish day gestation period, counting today.

Matthias' boy bits dropped around 4/3, which is the day he moved off that floor and into the spare bathroom. That's 24 days since he moved out of the room where Molly is. Molly started mounting his litter just after 6 weeks so the kits moved out.

My brain is going haywire. False pregnancy? Oh please, oh please? I checked my calendar, because I noted the day Molly and Gubb met live and in person and I wrote down the 10th of April, not the 15th like my blog says. I'm so confused. I wouldn't have let them tango 3 DAYS after his surgery! But even then it's only 17 days since...

When do does usually start making the nest? I can't remember when Molly made her nest the first time with Matthias' litter. Could she still be weeks out? She doesn't look prego...she looks a wee bit chunky, but not like she looked last time.

I just had the vet give me an estimate on her spay TODAY. Murphy's Law? Jinxed? What the heck!!

Does will usually pull fur when they are close to their due date (usually the day of or before) but there are always exceptions. We have experienced many hormonal does who will also pull their fur when they are ready to be bred. If she is not spayed then this could be a possibility but she could also be pregnant. If you can take her at day 17 a vet should be able to palpate but the closer to her expected due date the harder it will be to tell

Lake, I disagree that a buck can impregnate a female more than a month after neutering.

I'm hoping this is a false pregnancy. She wasn't supposed to have any litters with us, and after the one litter she did have we've been super careful.

Blerg.

I think it might be either a false pregnancy or just that she wants bred. The gestation period is 31 days. They usually don't pull fur until at least 29 days (and most right when they're about to kindle).

I don't know how long they can breed after being neutered. A horse is 6 weeks. But even so, it would be way too early for her to be building a nest.

Good luck!

Thanks..

I just can't fathom how it would have happened... I believe that a male can still pass sperm after being neutered, just from everything I've read the span is "around a week" which my rabbit savvy vet agreed with. We waited 8 days. Maybe that wasn't enough time.

We're not sitting on having them fixed anymore. It was about funds that we waited and wanted to space them out, but pffft. Atticus is scheduled to be fixed on the 17th, and Matthias has to be 4 months before my vet will fix him. He'll be 3 months in a couple of days. So here's hoping this is a false pregnancy and Molly can be spayed a week or so after Atticus.

I had made a posting about Atts being back the other night in the posting about Gubbs UTI in case anyone missed it was was like Whaaaat?
