Ty went in for his urine test and has been off ever since. The vet said the results came back with crystals in his urine so he's being limited to Romaine Lettuce and ONLY Romaine Lettuce, period.

Well, he's been sitting in his cage, not very responsive and it's been getting worse. While I was at work, my Mom called to tell me that Ty was grinding his teeth (When I got home, he was no longer doing this). I couldn't get off work but asked her to call the vet. She said that he should come into emergency, and then admitted that there really would not be much they could do right now other then take an x-ray because they closed pretty soon after. But I'm wondering if there is something they are not telling me, that maybe they screwed up with the urine test.

Ty's had the dribbling urine problem for a while, and never once has he showed ANY sort of pain, and yet right after Ty came back out from the back room, he's been listless and not interested in anything. What are the odds that suddenly, it's painful and may even be a bladder stone when there was NO sign of it BEFORE the vet visit?

Now, I am overly suspicious of vets and admittedly, do not trust them very much. We had a guinea pig that was going in for back teeth trim and the vet explained that her jaw would be "a little sore" and that perhaps they should keep her overnight and perhaps longer. Knowing how stressed she was, we decided to bring her home. They just warned us not to handle her too much and leave her be. For the week after, she wasn't able to eat no matter how hard she tried but we trusted our vet, who insisted she was fine and merely sore, and we took her somewhere else after a week and a half to be humanely put to sleep. It was there that we discovered they BROKE her JAW and were trying to hide it from us. There is no way they could not of known and if we had known that, we would have had her put to sleep and let her suffer for so long.

So yes, I am overly cautious with the possibility of a vet screwing up and trying to hide it... Is it possible she caused damage to Ty? We were going to bring him to a second vet tomorrow for another opinion.

I agree that you should get another opinion .
I am wondering what the procedure was that was done in the back room???

There is abolutely no rabbit saavy vet that would tell an owner to feed a rabbit only romaine lettuce ; I would give himhay ( not alfalfa ) and a small portion of timothy pellets if you wish until you get to another vet butfeeding romaine lettuce alone is basically just starving him ....

When you get more info maybe we can help you more...rabbits can have bladder stones, sludge , crystals and possibly the procedure( whatever it was) exacerbated his symptoms.). usually a rabbit with stones should be fedless calcium in their diet although many origins of stones are genetic problems rather than dietary alone.

he should be given plenty of fluids and possibly add a little apple juice to his water to encourage hydration. Hydration is extremely important with bladder/kidney issues.

The story of the guinea pig's jaw is abolutely horrific. I cannot believe that people who are apparently educated can be so cruel .. just horrible
let us know

Sorry, I realise now I worded it wrong (I was kinda upset when I wrote this...) but I meant no other veggies other then romaine lettuce, still give him pellets and hay. I apologise for the misunderstanding on that. I would have known right away not to trust a vet that suggested that.

Right now, he's getting Pedialyte which, thankfully, he loves and we still had from when we had to syringe it to both Peace and Ty little over a month ago. Luckily, haven't had to dive for the syringe quite yet as he is starting to drink a bit on his own and nibbles a bit on hay and romaine lettuce, but not nearly as much as I would like. However, last night when I took him out, he started making this little grunting noise that I have never heard him make before and he stopped when I put him down. Could holding him be causing him pain?He still won't move from the one corner of his cage.

Ruby was an extremely traumatic experience and we haven't trusted vets entirely since... I can't even imagine what that poor little piggy had to go through before we realised exactly what happened.

What other info would you need? I really want to just get him through this... I just hope that I didn't cause him to go through something worse then what may have happened had I just left him. I'm feeling extremely guilt-ridden over this entire thing...
