My two newest little girls, Dragonfly & Cricket, will not stop making messes on their platforms!

My other inside rabbit, Harper, was litter trained in like a month and hardly ever poos/pees on his platforms, so I have no idea what to do with the girls. >.<

I would be fine if it was just a few stray poos, but they hardly even go on their litter anymore. They poo and pee on the platforms, and sit on it, so it mushes all over and in their fur. Then they need baths and the cage needs cleaning((which would be fine since it's on wheels, but we have no hose! ergh!)) and it's just over all really troublesome.

Is there anything I can do for this? >.< I can't take away the platforms, the cage bottom is only 2x2 and they don't get inside playtime because they refuse to be litter trained, so they would only get out when the weather is nice.

Also, since my basic problem is them not being litter trained, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Their litter box is big enough, for both of them at once even, the hay is over it, and I move their poo into it daily. I clean it every few days too. I've been doing this for about 5 weeks...am I expecting too much because my first rabbit was litter trained so fast/easily?

They may need two litter boxes. I read in another thread (can't remember which one) that with a messy bonded pair sometimes you need to add a second litter box if the dominant one is hogging it.

Is there anyway that you could let them out in the house? What if you put up a playpen over a shower curtain or some cheap vinyl from Home Depot? That way if they make a mess it won't soak into your carpet.

Also, are they spayed? Neutering/spaying seems to really help a bunny's litter habits.

Tell me about it.

I recently bought a 2nd large playpen and attached two together because im in the process of bonding a pair of rabbits and want them to get used to the idea of being around each other (so far they're grooming each other between the wall so its a good sign).

But MAN its double the mess and they seem to watch each other and get bad habits from each other.

E.g. In the past, my doe LeeHom would ONLY wee in the her tray

Now he's acting like my buck Racer, who seems to pee and poop in his litter tray AND his hay tray.

It seems they just pee and poop as they're eating. I appreciate that its in a tray in general but its just a waste of hay because they sit in the box and eat it and pee all over perfectly good hay!

Bunnies do enjoy pooping while they eat. I serve all my hay in the litterbox. I have a grate over the litter to keep them separate and put the hay in the corner that they don't pee or poop in. All the bunnies have different corners. Heaven to bid I mix up the boxes!

I'll try another box, I guess. But neither of them really seems to dominant the litter box, so it may not be the problem. Can't hurt though!

And no, they aren't spayed. They're only about 2 months old, not old enough yet...but I did just realize this could be why they won't train? Are they too young? I don't think so but I'd like to know for sure.

Also, I'll see about the shower curtain/vinyl idea. They actually refuse to go on carpet((I played with them in my room for two hours)), but it hurts the other floors and is just a hassle to clean up.
