I got Cosmo to keep Midnight company (two females), however, Midnight was so aggressive, that Cosmo hid and cowered and grunted. She spent all her time hiding. Then I had to bring them in for the winter and separated them. Cosmo became much more confident and outgoing.

So I expanded their outdoor cage and separated them, but kept one wall with wire so that they could still be near each other. They spend most of their time grooming each other through the wire and cuddling up next to each other.

I took them out and put them together to see how it would go, but Cosmo ran away from Midnight and got upset every time Midnight came near.

It seems that Cosmo doesn't want to be with Midnight, but then when they're separated, they seem to only want to be together. I don't know what I should do to make them happy.

Please help :?

First question: are they both spayed? You will most likely have little success in the long term if they aren't.

Second question: where are you letting them meet? It should be on neutral territory where neither bun has been before. The first couple of meetings, nothing much will happen (running away is unusual). Normally, ignoring each other in the first meeting is a good sign.

Once we know those answers, more people will be able to help :)

What would their indoor housing be like THIS winter, if they DO bond? And to me, a cage sounds small, unlike a run outside or a pen inside.

Thank you for your replies.

No, at present they are not spayed. I have intended to in the long term, but haven't been able to afford it yet.

When I took them out for a bunny "date" they were on neutral territory (portable fence).

I shouldn't have used the word 'cage' because their outdoor area is quite large and deep. I dug it deep so they could make holes, and the pen is about 6'x10'.

I wish I could let them just run free, but I'm fairly convinced that they would run away (there are many holes in the fence) and my daughter has a vivacious dog that would only see them as play toys to chew up.

I am hoping to put together a very warm house so that I don't have to bring them back inside (neither of us were happy about that).

Any further insight will be most appreciated.

Thank you.
