Our 4-year-old house rabbit was sneezing and at times sounded congested for two weeks. Then my daughter noticed that when she wiped his nose, there was a dot of blood. We took him to a rabbit society-approved vet and he diagnosed it as a respiratory infection and gave us antibiotics. The next day when I was giving him his medication, I could see something bloody and protruding from his left nostril. We went back to the vet who removed it, just to notice more of the mass seemed to come down after he removed the first bunch. He thinks it's a large tumor. Has anyone had any experience with this and is there any chance it's curable without surgery? Our little guy definitely seems more mellow, but he is still eating and pooping, but less than normally.

I don't know if it is curable without surgery or not, however, I am sure that the vet probably is going to biopsy the mass to see if it is malignant and can most likely answer the question re surgery
I personally haven't seen this before in a rabbit

Thank you for the quick response. I made an appointment for tomorrow morning with a different vet for a second opinion. His breathing is pretty labored tonight so I'm afraid it's pretty serious. The first vet hadn't seen anything like it either. Sigh. The first vet said testing alone would be $100 and then I was afraid to ask what surgery might cost. I'll know more tomorrow morning. Sad that such a spunky bunny could take a turn so quickly after four very healthy years.

We're so sorry to hear of your problems. Poor Fuzzball. Our boy Mel got an abscess on his jaw and the vet cleaned it all out, but, it turned out to be a malignant tumor and we were able to have a short two months more. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.
