Our rabbit Bean is about 9 years old. Don't know breed or anything...He was born to us years ago from two rabbits we got from a petting zoo. He has been very healthy his whole life but tonight we just found a large lump/swollen area on the bottom of his neck under his chin. My mom found the area while she was petting him and bumped it and he jerked away. The growth/swollen area was definitely not there a few days ago (like this past weekend). He has not been acting strangely and has been eating and drinking water. Does anyone have any idea what could grow fairly large so fast? Could it be a tumor? Or maybe a bite or scratch from another animal that swelled?
We are going to take him to the vet but it would be great to get some answers before then if anyone knows anything or has had a similar experience!
Thanks

It could be an abscess from a tooth. Abscess come on fast and some don't bother bunnies or interupt their feeding unless it really gets sore or get a different infection from it.

Let us know what the Vet says. Wishing you luck with your bunny.

If he has long hair in that area, you might want to use cuticle scissors to trim it enough that you can see it better. If there's an open sore, you should clean it off with water, very gently.

Sounds like an abcess to me. I had a bun who was fine in the morning and by that evening he had a lump, so they can be very fast. Under idea circumstances bacteria can double every 20 minutes. I'm glad you are taking him to the vet. If it is an abcess he will need antibiotics.
