I know this is off topic, but the loss of over 50,000 lives, many of them children should not go without mention on our benevolent forum.

As I'm sure all of you are aware -While we celebrated the Christmas holiday, a devastating tsunami set off by one of the worst earth quakes in history, slammed Asian shores resulting in one of the most devastating natural disasters ever.

We take so much for granted that I think it's important to take a moment to remember those lost and keep in our thoughts those suffering from this horrible tragedy.

Pam

Absolutely, thank you for bringing this up, Pam. It's hard to watch any of the coverage without aching for those people, especially the children...

There are a great deal of aid organizations that could use donations at a time like this. I know I can't do much from where I am, but I can send money, which is better than nothing. :(

The sight of thewomen in Sri lanka holding her twolifelessyoung children will haunt me for a long time. Ive counted my blessings over again. All my prayers and thoughts go to them.

Prayers, thoughts, and my heart goes out to those poor devastated people.

On CNN this morning, a dad was cradling the body of his young son, and sobbing. I just lost it.....

One father was quoted as crying "My son, My king" as they loweredhisyoung soninto the ground-- Ihave had tears brimming in my eyes all day.

I don't watch much television, so have been reading the news on the internet. Every time I check, the count of people lost has escalated. It was nearly 60,000 when I last checked. I can't even begin to comprehend the devastation.

Makes you wonder if we're experiencing apocalyptic times, doesn't it, it is so horrific?

Obviously, prayers go out from here, too. I do hope the Red Cross performs on a higher level than it did during the 9/11crisis. I believe it is one of the UN's preferred disaster control organizations.

A little boy was saved from a title wave but they never found out who his parents are (yet).

That earthquake that started all this actually was strong enough to make the whole earth wobble on it's axis.

Pam, thanks so much for bringing this up. I haven't been following any kind of news coverage for the past couple of weeks or so andwasn't even aware that this happened.

I'll whisper a silent prayer for the survivors.

Buck, I think that you're right on target ... "Apocalyptic" is exactly the term that I'd use to describe what has been going on in the world for the last few years.

The news just gets worse, doesn't it? I work in a foreign currency bureau, and we had several people getting money for Phuket and Sri Lanka last week. One of my colleagues father was in Malaysia, so we were really worried, but she found out he is OK. I can't begin to imagine how awful it must have been.- Jan

I have a close friend in Sri Lanka that I haven't heard from, nor do I even know if he's alive. :(

We have never met in person, but like that matters. We met on a different message board over two years ago. He is on my mind a lot these days, as I have no clue what his status is, or his family's.

That's so sad. It makes me feel really lucky and thankful. Some children that suffered the tsunamis found their parents, but still there are a lot of people lost. I'll be praying for them.

It's absolutely horrible. All of those who lost their lives, those who lost loved ones and those helping the survivors...... are in my prayers.

I am amazed by the fact that they didn't pay attention to what the animals were doing..... they were going inland and hiding.

Did anyone hear about the Elephant who grabbed the kids and took off? or the kids who were out in the water and grabbed a large snake and he took them back to shore?
