I really want to put some sort of breed/breeds to my rabbits when people ask me what sort of rabbits are they. Princess is part lop and lionhead so I call her a lionlop even though I don't know if I should/could call her one. Sometimes I think Thumper may have some mini rex in him, he reminds me of one sometimes. Anyway, here is some info and pictures on them, let me know what breeds you think could be in them.

Thumper

Weight: 4 lbs

Ear length: 7.6cm (approx. 3 inches)

Fur: His fur is quite short but very smooth and silky.

Let me know if you think he could have mini rex in him or not or what kind of breeds he could be.

Weight: 4.5 lbs

Ear Length: 9 cm, Ears used to lop up until around 17 weeks old.

Fur: Quite long all over but longer on mane and butt, fur is soft and fluffy.

Let me know what you guys think, what sort of lop rabbit do you think she has in her and can I still call her a lionlop since she is a lop and lionhead rabbit?

Thanks for all your help, I really want to be able to tell people other then 'I don't know'

You would class her as a lionlop its just her ears have not lopped. I have no idea what your other one is to be perfectly honest I think just a mix breed. again the ears are quite long so perhaps some lop in her. Pamnock will have a better idea

I think it's amazing that she used to be fully lopped and has erect ears now. I wonder how common that is in mixed breed. i initially thought once the loose ear control the ears stay down... but i suppose that explains why my magic was a half lop for a couple of weeks:biggrin2:
But apart from calling them gorgeous I am not sure what names to put on them as regards breed.

Is Princess the rabbit who suddenly erected her ears from full lop? :D I wonder if they'll lop again. My guess is that Thumper might have some mini rex in him but more likely a mixed breed.

Thanks guys, ya Princess did that. It was really weird, one day she was fully lopped, this is her when she was:

and the next day she had her ears fully erect and never ever put them back down since :?My parents think she copied Thumper :D. I was on another rabbit forum at the time and everyone was stumped, no one had ever seen anything like it before.

I think Thumper may have a bit of mini rex in him but definately not pure bred by any means.

:D That's funny! I was browsing around looking for a rabbit forum to join and saw that topic on some other forum. It just clicked with Princess' photos and the lopping thing;)

Still no theory on the mystery of the unlopping ears?:)

Warm, steady temperatures generally help ears lop. Cooler, varied temperatures can be a factor in "tight" ears coming back up.

Should we expect the ears to lop back down in Summer? I have a similar case with a half lopped ear going back up.

That would be cool if they did.
Just imagine what an English lop would look like if the ears became erect in cold weather lol.
