Yup, we were contacted by this lady to see if we wanted this baby and she directed us to the kijiji ad she had posted for further information,
We called her to get more information. Apparently she's been having month after month of litters and had given away 21 bunnies (Babies and a pregnant doe) to a farm where they all live together now (Like that's not a Canmore situation waiting to happen) but kept one of the bucks and the original Mom.
So, those two made another litter. There were 11 babies in the litter and this little one was the sole survivor. She didn't care where it went, she just said the first one to come and claim it got the baby.
Needless to say, we dropped everything and went.
We arrived in the little townhouse complex and the first thing I saw was this little white Holland Lop hopping around outside with a lady a few doors down just watching it hop. Apparently, this was the Momma. She was pretty thin looking and covered in spray.
We were lead into the woman's house where she told us all about the previous bunnies she had and how funny it was that this random farmer came and took all the other ones off her hands. When we got to the babies cage, we realised that the baby was no longer housed with Momma, but with Dad in a small 30 gallon aquarium with newspaper, a bowl of pellets (Wal-Mart brand, oooooh!), a water bottle and a half eaten old looking apple.
Dad was extremely affectionate and constantly coming up to the side of the cage. She reached down and took out the baby.
We were greeted with this little cutie.
Apparently, she doesn't like pellets but she eats a lot of lettuce, apples and grass.
We asked if she had been given hay. She seemed uncomfortable that I asked and came up with some lame excuse that they didn't like it so she didn't give it (I really think they knew she should be getting hay but just didn't, she looked all guilty).
I grabbed little baby and prepared to make a getaway, going as far and as fast as I could. As we got to the car and turned around to look, we saw her let Dad outside as well to hop around with Momma.
Fantastic, more babies is JUST what they need. I was actually getting a bit emotional leaving them there, knowing what they would be living in. I know they were all 3 living in that aquarium and those poor buns just don't stand a chance. If they had offered the other two, I may have just taken them.
Anyways, we drove home and this little one is just the sweetest thing. Full of spunk, tons of personality and quite the little licker! I named the bun Trouble since you can tell she's going to be getting into a lot of trouble when she gets bigger, she's a mischievous little thing
We're going to have a foster take care of her until Bunanza, so she's a little older before going to her Furever home. As with all our rescues, we are not asking for money but we will be screening homes to make sure it is an appropriate situation for both Trouble and the new guardian!
She is seriously just the sweetest little thing and really deserving of a loving home!
